Banter[edit | edit source]
2008 Intro
Roctopus (Jimmy solo)
> Everybody Come Clap Your Hands
(BC over Jeff solo: Good evening everybody, welcome to the show! Welcome to the show. Don't be afraid of the dark, it's only a show.)
Tarantula
> G.L.O.W.
> Kill Your Parents
> Siva
Eye
Mayonaise
> Tonight, Tonight
> Speed Kills
BC: Thank you very much, thank you, thank you! ... You feelin’ alright? Yeeaahh. Just gettin’ started, that’s right. (off mic) Yeeahh, (on mic) yeeahh, heh heh heh. Heh heh heh.
Stand Inside Your Love
> Superchrist
> United States / Star Spangled Banner
BC: Thank you very much, thank you. Thank you very much, thank you, really, thank you. We’re gonna kick it down for a minute. You know you like your slow jams out here. Drivin’ down 101s, slow jammin’. That’s a local freeway, isn’t it Jeff, 101, did I get that right?
Jeff: That's right, that’s right. Hollywood, Hollywood.
BC: The 101 is the one you drive with your car and the top down....
Jeff: Straight down to the strip.
BC: Straight to the strip?
Jeff: Straight to the strip.
BC: Yeeaah. And the 405 is the one where you wanna take out a gun and shoot yourself, right?
Jeff: Could be, could be, definitely could be, yes it is.
BC: That’s suicide highway, right?
Jeff: Sometimes, yeah.
BC: Yeah. Right, heh, did I get that right?
Jeff: You got it right, man. You almost....
BC: And the 5 is just like you’re going to Mexico.
Jeff: Oh...yeah.
BC: Just goin’ to Mexico. Little Cabo Wabo with Sammy Hagar, yeah! We do the tequila, that’s right.
Panama (tease - Jeff plays the riff once and Jimmy joins in with kick drum)
BC: Is that Sammy era though? No. Can you play some Sammy era stuff? Bet you can’t. Right Now, do you know Right Now? Haha, put you on the spot, didn’t I?, heh heh. I remember Three Lock Box.
Three Lock Box (tease - Billy plays a few seconds in the wrong key)
BC: Sammy solo, thank you. That’s right. Rock Candy, wasn’t that one of his? Montrose?
Jeff: One Way to Rock.
BC: There’s Only One Way to Rock.
Jeff: Yeah.
BC: I Can’t Drive 55. Big hits! Monster. Didn’t he get in trouble for that though, I Can’t Drive 55? They made him like come out and say “I’m just kidding, drive 55." The Red Rocker cares about safety. Yes, it’s a good time to sit because you’re all old, I can see that. Yeah. We know you’re gettin' old, it’s cool, no problem. We know the '90s are a distant memory, just sit down, it’s okay. Just give up! Just give up, it’s cool, there you go, just give up, I see you givin’ up, it’s good. It feels good to give up, doesn’t it? Go on, give up! Give up the fight, come on! Heh heh. Anyway, like to play a song now from the Adory album. Speaking of giving up, that’s where they gave up on us, Jimmy!
Jimmy: (off mic) Yeah.
BC: Yeah. That was right about the time they just gave up on us, right about there. About ‘98. And then exactly eight years ago, we gave up on them! That’s right. December 2nd, 2000. Finito, goodbye, heh heh. And here we are again, heh heh heh. (Hulk Hogan voice) 20 years! 20 years, that's tough. (normal voice) But, uh, thank you, thank you seriously for being here with us tonight, thank you. We are happy to be back. We’re happy to be rockin’. In fact, it was the Red Rocker who called me and said, “Bring it back. Bring it back.” I said, “I don’t know, Sammy, they’re only gonna wanna hear old shit” and he said, “That’s cool. Show ‘em, show ‘em what you got.” Anyway, back to the Adory album, this is a song that I wrote for my mom, Martha. She did a good job. She taught me not to give a fuck about anything. And you can see it’s worked really well for me. It’s been a good career strategy, I can tell you that.
Guy in crowd: Still workin'!
BC: Yes. Heh heh.
Once Upon a Time (acoustic)
Again, Again, Again (acoustic)
BC: Thank you very much, thank you. Like to introduce the band to you. (lukewarm crowd response) Like to introduce the band to you. (bigger crowd response) Yes. On the violin, Ms. Gingger Shankar. On the geetar, Mr. Jeff Schroeder. On the trumpet, Mr. Stephen Bradley. On the trombone, Gabrial McNair. On the ice cream and the keys, Mr. Kris Pooley. On the bass guitar, Ms. Ginger Reyes-Pooley. On the keyboard, Ms. Lisa Harriton. And on the drums, my main man, Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin. He’s pretty good, he’s pretty good. You gotta work on your stick stuff a little bit, but...you’ll get there. Ladies and gentlemen, these smiles on our faces are real, we actually enjoy what we do now. No joke, no joke. We hope that fun is translating to your...buying dollar. What we lack in hits, we make up for in good cheer. Heh heh heh heh heh. Anyway, here’s a song called The Rose March.
The Rose March (acoustic)
BC: Thank you. ... Yeah. Okay, now we go to the next part of the show. I know, the energy from the crowd is just...willing me forward, heh heh. (crowd cheers) Yeah! That’s it.
Today
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
The Beginning is the End is the Beginning
Heavy Metal Machine / White Rabbit / White Horse
(BC at 9:35: Thank you everybody, we love you, owwww! We love you.)
> Glass’ Theme
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
[encore break]
We Only Come Out at Night
> Close to You
BC: Yes, that’s right, we long to be close to you. We’ve traveled many miles to be close to you. We can feel you! We can hear you! And gosh darn it, we can smell you. Yes. Jimmy, I think this is the most beautiful smelling crowd I’ve ever been in front of.
Jimmy: Yeah, combination of, uh...patchouli, weed and smog.
(kazoos play another chorus)
BC: Yes. Tonight’s been all about getting closer to you. For 20 years, we’ve clawed our way into your heart, that’s right. That’s right. And once we got inside your heart, what did we do? We pissed in it. We kicked it! Why? Because that’s what we do. Sometimes you just can’t explain something, right, Jimmy?
Jimmy: Heh heh, you can’t even explain this.
BC: Heh heh. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s been an honor to play for you tonight. It really has, it really has. Not everybody in the world understands our death trip. Yes, not everyone understands. But you do and that makes me feel good. Let’s go out to the middle eight.
(kazooing)
BC: Aw man, it’s so good. Now some of you have come with loved ones, in fact some of you are leaving with loved ones right now.
Jeff: [unintelligible]
BC: That’s right.
Jeff: Hahaha.
BC: Who’s here with a loved one? That’s right, that’s right. We’d like you now to turn to your loved one.
Jeff: (overlapping with last sentence by Billy) I’d like a [unintelligible].
BC: You got a loved one here, Jeff? You got a loved one? You got no one. That’s why you’ve got the blues. (Jeff plays sad kazoo) Turn to your loved one and say, “Thank you loved one, for being here with me.” There you go. We wanna bring you closer together. Because our studies have shown that couples spend more on our band. That’s right. That’s right. So before we go, I know I speak for everyone up here...that’s right, even you. Goodnight and thank you very much and see you tomorrow.
Jeff: (overlapping Billy) [unintelligible word]?
