Rock On
The Everlasting Gaze
I of the Mourning
BC: Thank you very much.
Wound
Blue Skies Bring Tears
I Am One
(BC midsong: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening, good evening, good evening. Welcome to the last gasps of a revolution. Yes, heh heh heh. No, it’s not dead, it’s still alive. The beast will always live in your heart, right? We are the machines. We speak our dream. We are the machines. We are the machines of goooood. Of gooood. Of gooood. (escalating to scream) Gooooooooooo!!)
BC: Thank you very much, thank you. ... I’d like to introduce to you a member of the band who, I think if it wasn’t for him there would be no more whales left in the world. He’s led the charge on enviro-concern. He takes this very seriously. Mr. James Iha.
Blew Away
Stand Inside Your Love
Le Deux Machina (tape)
To Sheila (Billy acoustic w/Iha)
BC: So, um, coming up pretty soon, we’re gonna do one of those VH1 Storyteller thingies. So um, as a way of practicing, I’ll tell you what this next song is about. This next song was written for the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Goading [unintelligible]. This isn’t very good for TV, you can’t cheer, see. You have to let me do my spiel, then you cheer. We’re on TV, it’s pretending. Anyway. So um, I used to sit up in my living room and play the piano and stare out the window and um, during the height of the Mellon Collie madness, I had three stalkers, all of them male, which I’m not very proud of. And uh, you know you sit in your house and you play the piano and you stare across the street and you see these young men stalking you and you think “What have I actually said to make them want to stalk me?” - you know?
Girl in crowd: They wanted your dick!
BC: I would like to think they wanted more than that. But you could be right. So I wrote this next song and I was sort of searching for a title and I thought to myself that I was probably saying too much and that’s what was sort of attracting these lunatics - or fine young men, depending on how you look at it - to me and so that’s how I came up with the title, because I thought I really should shut the fuck up and not say these things. So I don’t really know where that story went, but for those young men out in the audience, when you hear this song, if you’re attracted to this song, I’m sure there’s other alternative rock icons who want your attention.
Muzzle (Billy solo acoustic)
Disarm (acoustic)
BC: I’d like to take a moment to introduce the band to you tonight. As opposed to any other night. On the lead guitar, Smirky Legs Hoolihan. On the thundering disco bass, Lucy Original Sinner! On the lead maracas... (Jimmy snare hit) (laughing)...Fred from Lithuania!
Iha: And, ladies and gentlemen, from CNN, Wolf Blitzer on lead vocals.
Ava Adore (acoustic)
Today
Tonight, Tonight
> Glass and the Ghost Children
BC: Uhhh. Are you catching this signal or...? Heh heh heh. Change of plan. Disco time.
Zero
Heavy Metal Machine
(BC after late song call-and-response: (crowd claps along with Jimmy) You gotta do better than that. ... To all the people sitting down, the Backstreet Boys are gonna be out in a second, so just bear with us. I’m just kidding, I’m just kidding, it’s a joke. I’m too old to be booed.)
BC: Thank you very much.
Iha: [unintelligible]
BC: That’s the end of the concert, we’re just going to stand here.
Cherub Rock
BC: Thank you.
[encore break]
Iha: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
> Once in a Lifetime
and you might ask yourself
what does this song mean if it has no meaning?
and you might ask yourself
what does the singer feel if he has no feelings?
and you might ask yourself
what is the true meaning behind ice cream?
and you might ask yourself
if i scream, do you scream, do we scream? yeah
into the blue again
water flowing underground
letting the days go by
water flowing underground
you might ask yourself
who is the fuckin’ bald guy on stage?
you might ask yourself
what does he know about me and my life? yo!
you might ask yourself
was this man that stands before me once a little boy?
you might ask yourself
or is he just some sort of a generation toy?
into the blue again
water flowing underground
letting the days go by
water flowing underground
whoa!
go!
what do i want?
walkin’, dead, alone, in my head
i reach forward to only move back
i know there’s nothing
but further attack, repose, respond, receive, destroy, yes, yes, can you feel it?
can you feel it?
can you feel it?!
(screams)
whoa!
go!
what do i want?
(song ends)
BC: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for a great concert. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Thank you. We don’t know when we’re gonna be back this way again, so thank you for coming tonight. Thank you.
Iha: Thanks.
BC: Goodnight everybody.
Iha: Goodnight everybody, thanks, thanks a lot.
