"Le Deux Machina" is a song from The Smashing Pumpkins' sixth studio album, Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music.
The version on Machina II includes keyboards, presumably performed by Billy Corgan. A piano version, performed by Mike Garson in his signature improv style, is on The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music tape and slated to be on the Machina reissue.[1] Snippets of Garson's take on the song are featured during the middle interlude to "Glass and the Ghost Children".
No master tapes of original version exist, rather just three digital stereo recordings. For the Machina re-issue, the best of these three recordings was chosen and overdubs were added to it.[2] Yet another variant of the song known as "Le Deux Machina 3" recorded at Sadlands with overdubs added in 2020 is also slated to make the track list.[3]
