Glass and the Ghost Children
BC: Good evening, thank you very much.
Iha: Hey.
BC: How’s everybody doin’ tonight? Like to, uh, introduce my partner. You know him as a poet and a Renaissance man, to me he’s just a friend, Mr. James Iha.
Blew Away
Stand Inside Your Love
Tonight, Tonight
Blue Skies Bring Tears
I of the Mourning
Le Deux Machina (tape)
To Sheila (Billy acoustic w/Iha)
BC: Thanks. I’d like to, um, play a song I’ve never played before. As life goes, you know, you never know when you’re gonna pass this way again, so.... So, to you.
Raindrops + Sunshowers (Billy solo electric)
BC: Let’s play something else.
Iha: That’s all.
BC: Hey, you know what? Let’s just do it, okay.
Ava Adore (acoustic, played without the normal backing track)
BC: See, the Allman Brothers were here last night. (Jimmy plays a drum beat) Didn’t you do that song, Sweet Melissa? You don’t know Sweet Melissa for us?
Iha: Oh yeah, I can’t remember it.
Melissa (tease - Iha sings the first line)
Iha: Will you hide...heh heh, I can’t remember the words but it’s a really good song. [unintelligible].
BC: Thank you very much, um, we’d like to play another song off our new album, it’s coming out next month. It’s called Machina. This is called Why Try...Try, Try.
Try, Try, Try (acoustic)
BC: Thanks.
Rock On
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
> Once in a Lifetime
you might ask yourself
why may i only cry tears of milk?
you might ask yourself
what is truth and the [unintelligible word] to replete it and fill?
you might ask yourself
why do my friends think that my parents are gay?
you might ask yourself
if my parents are gay, does that mean i’m gay too?
into the blue again
water flowing underground
letting the days go by
water flowing underground
you might ask yourself
just who’s that fucking guy on stage? what?!
you might ask yourself
what does he know about me and my life and my poetry?
you might ask yourself
is the ocean gonna [unintelligible word] us and kill us all, huh?
you might ask yourself
what is wealth? what is wealth?!
into the blue again
water flowing underground
letting the days go by
water flowing underground
what?!
the!
what the fuck?
absolution, tradition, realization, true [4-5 unintelligible words]
on the battlefield, the [unintelligible word] pointed at [unintelligible word]
[unintelligible]
(screams)
yo!
now you know
do not be afraid
this is only a test, this is only a test, this is only a test
[2 unintelligible words], immobilized and destroyed
(gradually rising to screaming) destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy, destroy!
[unintelligible noise]!
that’s right
do you know your name?
Mayonaise
Perfect
> I Am One
(BC midsong: In every realm I speak revolution. In every form I am confusion. I walk this earth as agitation. I plant my knives...in every headstone cast. In every kitty cat. In every pussywillow. In every sunshine kiss. We drift through the graveyard. Sunshine pouring through. I knew I was eternal. And I knew I looooove (high pitched) you! (normal voice) We are the machines. We speak this dream. We are the machines. We are the machines of goooooooooood. Of goooood. Of goooood. Of god.)
[encore break]
Iha: Thank you. Thank you very much. How are you guys doin’ out there? Look who’s there, they’re rockin’ with us. A quick introduction of the band: on acoustic guitar and drums, Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin. Woo. On lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Mr. Billy Corgan. [unintelligible]. On the bass (pronounced like the fish) guitar, from Canada, Ms. Melissa Auf der Maur. And I am Dickey Betts.
1979 (acoustic, Jimmy plays guitar)
BC: Larry, could we have the lights on for a second, please? Heh.
Iha: How are y’all doin’?
BC: Alright. This entire concert, which I have to say thank you very much for, it’s been an enjoyable time for us.
Iha: Ow!
BC: How did - there’s a lot of people don’t think I can’t see them, I can see the entire audience. And obviously I can see you now, but even when the lights are dark, I can still pretty much see what everybody’s doing, uh, who’s, uh, combing their hair, who’s not paying any attention, who’s yawning, I can see it all, I can see everything.
Iha: We know. [unintelligible noise].
BC: And I thought to myself, “Who - who here best embodies the spirit that I seek?”
Iha: [unintellligible].
BC: I can’t do it - I can’t do it now because now you know you’re being watched, see.
Iha: Now you know.
BC: I paid attention when you didn’t think you were being watched and you didn’t think I knew ‘cause I know who’s been rocking and who’s not, just like [unintelligible].
Iha: [unintelligible].
BC: I say - I say we let those two crazy girls come down here and rock out, come on down.
Iha: [unintelligible].
BC: Don’t fall, don’t fall, take your time.
Iha: Is everybody ready for more love? More love rock and roll?
BC: Yes, actually, that girl there, I think she’s sort of in a silver top, she has been rocking out the whole concert.
Iha: Oh yes, that’s true. This dude right here, he’s been a rocker.
BC: You looked much bigger from the back but....
Iha: This man right here. [unintelligible].
BC: Heh. There you go. Now these four people right here, we have to say, god bless you, thank you, god bless you everybody, thank you. But, uh, just so you know, you have tattoos, we don’t approve of tattoos. We’re against tattoos. Uh, multiple piercings are out. Um, sorry, you have to go back upstairs now.
Iha: [unintelligible]. So on this next song, we ask the four of you in the spirit of the ‘60s, to just freak out. They used to do that in the ‘60s, they just tune in, drop out and something.
BC: But as a legal disclaimer, if you happen to fall through the orchestra pit and be injured, we have no responsibility.
Iha: We have nothing to do with it.
Fuck You
BC: Thank you.
Iha: Thank you.
BC: I just had to get it out of my system.
[encore break]
Iha: Alright, we’re gonna do the Procul Harum classic Whiter Shade of Pale, if you all know the song. We also got a guest, Stevie Winwood, on the B3, he’s offstage right now. Whiter Shade of Pale.
Today
Drown
(Iha over outro feedback: I’ve got two guitars! I got two guitars. Goodnight, ladies and gentlemen.)
