BC: Thank you! What you gonna do? Welcome, good evening, welcome to the show. Normally a traveling entity, right now a sedentary self-imploding heap of noise. Yeah. Cheer the noise. Um, we hope you have a good time tonight.

BC: Thank you.
Untitled
If All Goes Wrong (Billy solo acoustic)
Thirty-three (Billy 12-string w/Lisa)
BC: Ahem. Thank you. I’d like to play a new song that I just wrote this morning if that’s alright.
The Rose March (abandoned - Billy plays for ~30 seconds but stops before lyrics)
BC: Actually, before I play this song.... Now I was just thinking today as I was writing this song, ‘cause I’ve been writing a lot of songs lately, um.... You know, there’s a, there’s a, there’s a part of me that’s, uh....
Guy in crowd: Last stop for Bill Walsh!
BC: Okay, I’ll be quiet for 60 seconds, you can say whatever you want and then I’ll talk for a minute and then you can talk for a minute and I’ll talk for a minute and...okay, it’s your 60 seconds: Go! (crowd cheering, making noise) Is that 60 seconds? Er, heh heh. We’ll pretend it’s 60 seconds. Um, anyway, as I was, uh, I was writing this song this morning, you know, maternally sort of optimistic, you know, the next one’s gonna be the great one or the next one after that’s gonna be the great one and then, as I was writing this song, I was thinking “Oh, this is a nice song, you know, but does it make any difference?” Because, there’s lots of those songs that, I mean, we’re playing songs off Machina and nobody even knows those songs and that album’s been out, heh, that album’s been out for seven years.” It’s not criticism, it’s just the reality of the life that I live. So, um, anyway, so you know there’s, I’m Piscean so there’s this divided consciousness, yeah...(crowd cheers)...heh heh, yay Pisces. Fuck all you other 11 signs, Pisces rule! Heh heh. Anyway, heh, just kidding, we love all your signs. As a Pisces, I have to love you, I have no choice, so, uh, anyway, heh heh. So anyway, so, I started thinking today about the band and this band that I’m playing in right now and, uh, absolutely and, uh, you know I’ve really, I really have to say I’m very grateful, uh, to Jeff, Ginger, Lisa and Jimmy for, for really taking this journey. I think we’re up to playing around something like 60 songs, which is just a mind-numbing number, and I’m-I’m to blame, really, ‘cause I just wanna keep trying more stuff and different stuff and.... I swear there’s a point to this. Anyway, so, as I was writing this song, I was thinking, you know, about the consciousness of--of coming up against expectations of, against knowing that people want to hear old songs and this B-side and all these things and it doesn’t matter and is it a good idea to play this song, not play this song, maybe I’ll just write it and I won’t play this song....
Guy in crowd: (very sarcastically) Good idea, William!
BC: I’m not sure which idea you thought was good but I’ll pretend it’s the optimistic one.
Guy in crowd: Go Cubbies!
BC: So anyway, yes, go Cubbies and, uh.... The beautiful thing about these kind of soliloquies is I know there’s always that one dude that doesn’t matter what I say, it’s–it doesn’t get in there, you know what I mean? I can say I’m gonna blow up the world tomorrow at noon with a nuclear device and he’d be like “Go Cubs!”, you know. So, uh...heh heh. Yes. Okay, so here’s the end of the soliloquy, I promise. So, uh...it’s probably one of these things better left unsaid, probably. (crowd disagrees) Yeah but, the ten people in the front wanna hear it but the hundred in the back don’t. Town hall meeting and, uh, heh heh heh. Me and Hillary Rodham and, uh, ‘cause I wanna know what you’re thinking. Just like Hillary, I wanna know. (guy in crowd laughs loudly and maniacally) Uh...heh heh, a heh heh, that was a funny one. Okay, so here’s the end, I promise, just give me 30 seconds and I’ll stop and I’ll, we can go back to the musical program. Okay, so, anyway, so in this moment of thinking about pushing the band so hard to try all this new material and coming up against the consciousness of “Well, what should we play?” and “Are we disappointing people? Are we making people excited?” Half the crowd wants to hear old shit, half the crowd wants to hear new shit. Half the–-the other ten percent don’t want to hear anything. Yes. So, it’s sort of like this, it’s like...at some point, I’m 40 years old, as a man you sort of have to state your intention, right? You have to sort of, you have to find the zen in the moment, okay, here is the zen of this particular moment, okay? Just bear with me. The zen of this particular moment is, it will and shall be going forward is, this is--this is a new band, okay. We love playing the old music, we love playing the old music, in fact we’re very humbled that you want to hear the old music but when you come through this door, know that this is a new band and everything we’re trying to do is to take this thing forward, not to go backwards. And--and Jimmy and I talk about it a lot, the only way to go forward is to make mistakes, to try things, to push the envelope to try new things and this is the place to do it, right, yes? So here is today’s terrible song.
The Rose March (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: This is another San Francisco song.
99 Floors (acoustic)
> Glass and the Ghost Children
Tarantula
Cherub Rock (abandoned - Jimmy read setlist wrong)
Starz
> Cherub Rock
Disarm
BC: You over it, you done, should we quit, that’s it, basta finito? Hasta luego....is that, what does that mean? I don’t even know what that means. What does hasta luego mean?
Ginger: Until later.
BC: Say that again?
Ginger: Until later.
BC: Can they hear you?
Ginger: Until later.
BC: Can anyone hear Ginger?
Ginger: Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Hello?
BC: John Lemon does not want you heard.
Ginger: Is this thing on?
overlapping: BC: He’s shaking his head yes. / Ginger: I can see you, John.
Jeff: [unintelligible]
(crowd is chanting “otra”)
Ginger: Okay. It means “until later.”
BC: Hasta luego. I know “ocho” is eight. (Ginger laughing) Is that right?
Ginger: Yeah, you’re right but they’re saying “otra”, which means “another.”
BC: They’re saying what?
Ginger: “Otra.” Means “another.”
BC: Another? Oh, another song. Heh heh heh. I don’t understand semaphore, my friend, but thank you, heh heh heh. It’s a full moon, that’s what it is. You got the violence over here and the blood over here and.....
Guy in crowd: Got the love in the middle!
BC: You got the love in the middle. That’s what she said. You got the love in.... Like to dedicate this song to James Brown. ‘Cause James Brown would know what to do right now ‘cause I don’t, I fucking don’t.
