Banter[edit | edit source]
Guy in crowd: When’s the new album coming out?
BC: Maybe in the spring.
Iha: We’ll see, let’s turn [unintelligible]. Thank you, the tape machine’s in the back, try to pack a lot of junk.
BC: I gotta play.
BC: Thank you.
Hello Kitty Kat
BC: Thank you. So, who was here last night? Well, rock to you, man...overalls. So, we're playing all new songs, so if you're here to hear any oldies, I'm very sorry. We've come to Atlanta to record our new major label sellout debut. And hopefully you'll all be buying it with your hard-earned dollars, so that I can live on a boat. Thank you. This is called, um, Quiet.
BC: Will you please get rid of that incessant humming that -- it's not the one that's always inside my head, it's a different one, it's the one outside my head that keeps going huuh huuuh. Yeah, I know this has nothing to do with you, but...[unintelligible]. So.... What do you want to hear? See, you can't answer that question. (crowd yelling) What? [1-2 unintelligible words]? This is called Cherub Rock for all you taking notes. You’ll need to stop that hum.
(BC before “ask yourself a question”: Hey, are you with us or what? Hey, I’m a mystery hum. There it is! Yeah.)
BC: See, we've been doing a lot of meditation, that's why we're so spaced out. Yeah, here's to meditation. So, you live in a beautiful city, it's a lot better than the one we come from. Chicago, yeah. Home of pain, unhappiness and anger. We are in the downtune phase, for those of you who are in grunge bands. This is where you downtune and show your Seattle roots. As soon as D'arcy's ready, we will proceed with our grunge rock. Just so you know, we’re not -- you know we're from Seattle, right?
Frail and Bedazzled
BC: (singing while tuning guitar) Please take me home. I’m in the cone. I know we belong. (stops tuning, speaking) Thank you for coming. I apologize for us not being at our bestest but...these things happen. It's a very existentialist point of view, which means that it's okay to suck sometimes.
BC: Hi, um, we're the Smashing Pumpkins and we've come here to play oldies, oh god. Time to pretend we are starting over.
Iha: Thank you very very much. These next songs are –- are carbon dated by about three or four years.
I Am One
BC: Give us the weird guitars. ... We wanna play you one more new song and...we have to go bye-bye.
Iha: This is a very sad ballad, it's called Mayonaise.
Mayonaise (abandoned after 3rd note)
BC: Hold on a second there. Thank you -- thank you for coming again, we really appreciate it.
Mayonaise (abandoned after 3rd note again)
BC: Hold on, wait, alright. We're going to be in Atlanta for three months, so hope to see you [1-2 unintelligible words]. Thank you for making us feel very welcome and loved.
Iha: This is uh, definitely a full [3 unintelligible words] tonight and....
BC: Heh, you've seen us at our best and worst, so you can -– you can tell your friends about it.
Iha: We’re getting on the thumb wagon, the thumb wagon, let’s see the thumb.
BC: No, I think they deserve the -– the metal horn. In fact, to quote Dio....
BC: So this is Mayonaise.
> Tristessa (tease)
BC: Bye, see you later.
