Courtney Love is as the frontwoman lead vocalist of the alternative band Hole and a long-time companion of Billy Corgan.

Hole opened up for The Smashing Pumpkins on the US leg of the Gish tour, aligning with Hole's Pretty on the Inside tour.[1] This included a July 15, 1991 performance at New York City's famed CBGB music club to a capacity of 250 people.[2] During this tour, Love briefly dated Corgan before formally dating Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.[3] In an interview with Tony Wilson, Corgan summarized that he rejected Love's advances, and the same night she slept with Kurt Cobain, and "the rest is history".[4]

Celebrity Skin[edit | edit source]

After the Cobain's death and success with Live Through This, Hole started work on their next album, Celebrity Skin. Love compared Corgan's presence in the studio to "a math teacher who wouldn't give you the answers but was making you solve the problems yourself".[5] Billy Corgan co-wrote the arrangements for five of the songs and played bass on three. As a member of Hole, former Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur performs on the album as well.

Nobody's Daughter[edit | edit source]

In 2010, Corgan claimed co-writing credit with Love on at least two of the songs on Hole's final album Nobody's Daughter and tried to assert a right of approval before the album could be released. Corgan had helped develop the album during its early stages. The album was released without the writing controversy ever being litigated or publicly resolved.[6][7]

The Smashing Pumpkins 30th Anniversary Show[edit | edit source]

Love sang three songs with The Smashing Pumpkins at the 30th Anniversary Show on August 2, 2018 in New Jersey.
