(BC midsong: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, good evening. We are the Smashing Pumpkins. Welcome, welcome to the last gasps of a dying revolution. Thank you very much for being with us on the last night of our American tour, we appreciate it. And one small thing, one small thing: no matter what you hear, no matter what you read, no matter what your friends tell you, no matter what your enemies tell you, we love you and we respect you and without you, without you, without you, we would’ve been done a long time ago, so god bless you very much, thank you. We are the machines. We speak our dreams. We are the machines. We are the machines of goooooood. Goooooood. Gooooood. (screams))
BC: Thank you, thank you. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, three words, just three words: Mr. James Iha.
Blew Away
Stand Inside Your Love
I of the Mourning
Le Deux Machina (tape)
To Sheila (Billy acoustic w/Iha)
BC: Thank you very much, thank you.
Guy in crowd: Muz-zle [unintelligible]!
BC: Oh, you’ve been on the internet, buddy. That’s the only shitty thing about the internet is like everybody always knows what song I’m gonna play next, so...just pretend that you don’t know what I’m gonna play next. In fact, let’s pretend there is no internet. I mean, let’s just face it, it’s just a more sophisticated telephone, that’s it, so not that big a deal. But then again, it’s going to change the music industry and um, which is not a bad thing. I - to this young man here, I mean, I’m know I’m getting older, but I’m not yet to the point where I’m taking requests at a piano bar...yet.
Muzzle (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Thank you, thank you. We’d now like to uh, take a moment to introduce the band to you. We’ve got some new faces. Some people you may not recognize since the last time we came through. On lead guitar, on lead guitar, Colin Powell. On lead bass, Mary Jane. Yes, catch that spotlight, Mary Jane. On lead drums, on lead drums, Arvydas Sabonis. Arvydas Sabonis.
Iha: Ladies - ladies and gentlemen, from NBC, Mr. Bryant Gumbel.
Try, Try, Try (acoustic)
Glass and the Ghost Children
Fuck You
BC: Jimmy Chamberlin on the drums, Jimmy Chamberlin. I just have to applaud you on that one, Jimmy, that was pretty good. Those horse tranquilizers are really....
Heavy Metal Machine
With Every Light (acoustic)
Cherub Rock
[encore break]
Blank Page
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
> Once in a Lifetime / Every Breath You Take
and you might ask yourself
what does this song mean if it has no meaning?
and you might ask yourself
what do i feel if i have no feelings?
and you might ask yourself
just how deep is the bottom of the ocean?
and you might ask yourself
is it love or is it devotion?

once in a lifetime
water flowing underground
into the blue again
water flowing underground

owww! you might ask yourself
just who is that fucking guy on stage think he is [sic]? oh!
you might ask yourself
what the fuck does he know about me and my life? yeah!
you might ask yourself
am i really an individual? here i’m just a number
you might ask yourself
am i sleeping or is it just a slumber?

once in a lifetime
water flowing underground
into the blue again
water flowing underground

whoa!
go!
what do i want?

the question is intent
the meaning is to vent
(long scream)

whoa!
go!
what do i want? yeah

silently we stalk in your heart, secretly we live in your stomach
truly we are inside your head
every step you take, we walk with you
every breath you make, ah ha
heh heh
yes
can you feel it?
can you feel it?
can you feel it?!
can you feel it?!
owwww!!!

ow!!!
[unintelligible noise]!

(screams)

what the fuck?!
ow!!!
that’s right, that’s right, that’s right

[encore break]
Iha: Thank you, thank you very much. How’s everybody doing? Is everybody having a reasonable time? I can’t tell [unintelligible]. Portland, have you ever seen a lake of fire? A lake of never-ending fire?
BC: James.
Iha: ‘Cause you are livin’ in s- I’m kidding, um, we just like - this is our last show at the end of a couple months in America and we just, I don’t know, you’re not everybody that we saw on tour, but uh, we’d like to thank everybody for coming tonight and making this a rockin’ tour, you guys are [unintelligible]. And uh, well, you know, I’d like to say hello to my mom and my dad and everybody on the internet and we hope you rock out to another alternative jam song we’re going to play after this.
Melissa: Oh, the great Portland. I wanna thank, first of all the unique US of A for my first American tour with the greatest, uh, heavy metal scary band out there right there, eh. But I must warn the U.S. that we’re all going to Canada soon too, so come up to Canada, seein’ us this summer?
BC: Are you saying that we’re better than all the Canadian bands combined?
Melissa: Uh, can’t say that, no. What about Rush?
Jimmy: Uh, no, we’re not better than Rush. Um, I don’t usually get to talk on the mic, but I’d like to say thanks to everybody. I know I haven’t been the - haven’t been the best boy in the whole world my whole life, but...I’m pretty good now, so thanks for welcoming me back and I love you guys and hopefully we’ll see you again, maybe don’t. God bless.
BC: Yes, we don’t know if this is our last show of our last tour ever of America. We hope to do one more tour, but judging by the way the world is, it’s probably not going to happen, so to everyone here, to anyone who hears what we’re saying, we love you and we appreciate everything that’s ever happened, thank you. Thank you. So we dedicate this oldie but goldie to all of you, hope you like it, have a good night, god bless.
