20th Century Boy
I’m Waiting for the Man
(BC after lyrics: Where we at? Chicago.
unknown guy: Got the blues!
BC: You got the blues? [tape cuts])
Season of the Witch
BC: [cuts in] Just kidding, but uh, thank you very much, it’s really cool you guys are here. And uh, you know, I realize it’s a--we all realize it’s hard times economically for everybody, so thank you for contributing to a great cause. And uh, I’m really happy to be involved with this, it’s been a really nice experience for me, always great to play with my brother Matt here. Like to play a song now by the Beatles, you may have heard of them. They were good once. At one point in my life, I was living in Florida, St. Petersburg if you’ve ever been. And--anyone been to St. Petersburg? Yeah, they call it god’s waiting room. And uh, I was living there when I was 19--this is before I became Billy...I was just William back then--and I was walking down the street and I used to go visit this record store and I walked through the store and the guy said, “Hey, it’s Nowhere Man.” Oh. Nowhere Man is the song I’m singing, but it’s a true story! The guy did call me Nowhere Man.
Nowhere Man
BC: Thank you. Like to play a new Smashing Pumpkins song for you. Anyone up for crowd participation? Okay, you can get a little experience what it’s like to be in a band with me right now. You can feel that...withering glare. Okay, so the song goes like this--I’ll teach it to you and then we’ll do it together. So it’s (singing and playing guitar) Oh, oh oh, oh. (stops playing, speaking) Yeah, I can tell you’ve heard it. Free on Smashing Pumpkins dot com. (singing and playing guitar) Oh, oh oh, oh, oh oh. (gesturing for crowd to sing; after no response, he stops playing and speaks) You’re just a step above James Iha right now. One more time, ready?
Widow Wake My Mind
BC: Thanks a lot, thank you. Goodnight [tape cuts].
