"Sighommi" is the first single by The Smashing Pumpkins from their 2024 album, Aghori Mhori Mei. It was released on August 2, 2024.[1]
Written and produced by Billy Corgan, musically "Sighommi" is characterized by an up-tempo[2] rock production.[3] Upon release of the album, critics considered the song a strong single due to its radio friendly sound amongst the album's heavier tracks.[2]
As the first single from Aghori Mhori Mei, "Sighommi" was released by Martha's Music to United States alternative and rock format radio stations on August 2, 2024. It was the number one most-added track to these formats in its first week of release.[4] Commercially the single peaked at number five on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.
Background and release[edit | edit source]
The Smashing Pumpkins started work on Aghori Mhori Mei in late 2022, after production on the bands twelfth studio album Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts (2022–2023) was completed.[5] The album was billed as a "rock and roll guitar record" by Corgan in 2024.[6]
The album had no singles prior to release of the album.[5] On August 2, 2024, "Sighommi" was announced as the first single from the album to be released.[1] Released through Martha's music to alternative and rock format radio stations in the United States, "Sighommi" was the number one most-added track to these formats in its first week of release.[4]
Critical reception[edit | edit source]
Beats Per Minute gave the song a positive review in its review of the parent album. In their review they considered the track to be "pure euphoria" and suggested the song was "chromatic in its Deftones-like power".[2] Kerrang! praised the song as "excitable and invigorated" in their review of the album.[3] Sputnikmusic called the track a "rollicking radio-friendly banger" and praised Katie Cole's backing vocals.[7]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Nails to the quick
Daddy died and liars lie
A bit more than sick
A dash in bittersweet
What's that make of me
Save a lost thing
No choice but a choice to leave
Can't you make me believe
Up where the others dare
What chance have I
What chances we would fight in love's affair
Swear mornings changed
And I will lie where you lie
Say you're with shame
Then drop to your knees
Maybe then you'll feast what's worth sight
You'll dream what I dream at night
As one not one nor sum of hazy grace
As a Janus exclaims
Don't you flee
Don't but stray far
You can never leave this stage
It's not just me
It's about you here in heart
For there's your need
Before one breath would right such harms
You should know that you belong
Wherever you may toll
No, not here
And not far though but next to me
Can't you make me believe
Up where the others dare
What chance have I
What chances we would fight in love's affair
Come on, atone
Let's run away
Cone on, atone
Let's run away
