The November 6, 2000 performance was The Smashing Pumpkins' last performance in Europe before the 2000 breakup. Before the show began, ushers distributed copies of the hand-written sixth chapter of Glass and The Machines of God, in the form of a missive. It talked about an entity called the "I of the Radio" (or the "I of the Mourning") that brought salvation and comfort. Rather than from real-life Corgan, it was meant to be from his character, Glass, speaking to the fans where were known as The Ghost Children.

Iha: Uh...I don’t know any jokes so....
BC: You can talk about mad cow disease, that always goes over real big.
Iha: Mad cow disease?  Uh...
BC: Or BSE.
Iha: BSE?  Talk about the Euro dollar?  Yeah.  I don’t know.  What do you feel like?  What’s that?  You wanna talk about America?  Heh heh.  That’s very impressive.
BC: Everybody wants to know about America, James, tell everyone what America is like.
Iha: Well, as a young boy, I had so many hamburgers and hot dogs and rock music in my life.  And I went to school and I sang the national anthem and I ended up in an alternative loud rock band.  Heh heh.
BC: The American dream.
Iha: Yeah, I guess it is, right.
BC: Speaking of the American dream...
Iha: Yes, the American dream is about to happen again, the election.
BC: Yes, we’re looking very forward.
Iha: Is that totally depressing or...?  Yeah, I think it’s totally depressing [unintelligible].  Politics are not our strong point but...if Bush wins, it’s very scary.  And we apologize as American rock band now if he wins.  And now, we’ll rock some more.
BC: No no no.  No, uh, the last song....
Iha: Alright.  So, about his economic policies, it seems that the upper stratosphere....
BC: No no no, they - they’re not interested in the G8 or whatever, G9 or....  They’re interested in the C9.
Iha: Now since Holland pulled its backing out of the Euro dollar, it seems that the Euro has taken....  Or the Millennium Dome, well, here’s another waste of money in United Kingdom or...I don’t know.
BC: Posh and Becks?
Iha: Heh heh heh!  What about Posh and Becks, do you people like them?  He’s a hell of a net ball player?  Oh, football, yeah, right.  I sure do like rock music though.  And uh, alright.  Sorry, what were you gonna say?
BC: I just wanna put a plug in for our last album, Machina 2.  The last song that we played, Let Me Give the World to You, is on that album and this next song we’d like to play for you is also on that album, it’s called Home.  Oh by the way, this song shows our blatant U2 influences so tellingly.  But they’re not gonna get any royalties out of us.
Iha: Hey, I will not follow.
I Will Follow (tease - Billy plays the riff poorly)
Iha: People!  A fine rock feat!  That’s a pretty, pretty good song.
BC: It’s not bad, it’s okay.
Iha: Heh, it’s not bad.
BC: Okay, this is Home.

Iha: Thank you, thank you very much.
BC: Thank you very much.
Iha: You are exceedingly nice...and I hope we’ve been relatively rocking.
BC: They’re almost - almost pleasant.
Iha: Us pleasant.  Just like the weather.  Um, okay, I would like to introduce the band at present.  I would like to introduce a legendary - ugh, legendary piano player, all the way from Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Mike Garson.  Hell of a piano player.  All the way from Chicago, on crazy keyboards, space sounds and stuff, Mr. Chris Holmes.  Ow!  And now, from Canada, a socialist, a fiery vixen, Miss Melissa Auf der Maur.  Rockin’ those four strings.  Happy to be in Dublin.  Happy to have a pint, I see, didn’t you have a pint or something?  Ohhhhhh.
BC: She’s drinkin’, wait, she’s drinkin’ dirt. That’s dirt!
Iha: Actually, I’ve always been told to have Guinness in Ireland and it’s quite good.
BC: It helps you poop, I hear.
Iha: It’s kind of like having a salad and a beer all in one, it’s so heavy.  Alright, um, heh, from Joliet, Illinois, the bruiser, the cruiser, the drummer of the Smashing Pumpkins, Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin.  Fuckin’ shitpot drums.  He also plays guitar too.  Heh heh.  What was that new one you were working on the other day, Jimmy?  The Bach fugue in B minor?  (Jimmy doodles for a second)  That was a yes, that wasn’t it, but the other day he was playing, uh...  (Jimmy doodling again)  Ah yes, I feel myself transported to Austria in some time.  I would like to have some tea and some - some sort of nice pastry.  I think that would be great.  Have all sorts of Rococo furniture and uh, a way gone, a giant clock with.  Alright, on lead vocals, songwriting, sonic destruction, Mr. Billy Corgan.
Fairytale of New York (tease - Mike plays a piano melody and Iha sings several lines)
Iha: (half singing) And the boys of the NYPD choir were singing Galway Bay.  And the bells are ringing out.  Well, it’s not Christmas, but...I coulda been someone, but so could anyone.  You’re a punk, you’re a slut? - you’re an old slut on junk. (speaking) Alright, I like that Pogues record very much.
BC: [unintelligible].  I heard the rumor you’re into The Corrs too.
Iha: Heh heh.  They do seem to have some very nice harmonies.
BC: I won’t go there.
Iha: Alright.
BC: And on lead death ray guitar, Mr. James Iha.  Now before we play this final song, we’d like to say thank you very much for a wonderful concert and great evening.
Iha: You rock.
BC: We appreciate very much the support that we’ve received in Ireland and um...that’s all I can say.  We love you, thank you, god bless.

Home
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
[encore break]
