On the night of July 27, 2010, The Smashing Pumpkins performed their first show at the Metro in Chicago since the breakup in 2000. It was a benefit concert for Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone, who was hospitalized after intervening in a domestic violence incident involving a man beating his wife. The Pumpkins raised $80,000 to finance his hospital bills.

The show saw the only public performance of the original "Blessed Mother", which had been performed at several soundchecks throughout Rock 'n' Roll Party tour in summer 2010. Former SP drummer Matt Walker performed on "1979", with Mat Devine of the opening act, Kill Hannah, performing vocals. Joe Shanahan, other members of Kill Hannah and friends of Matthew Leone were brought on stage. The guitar that Corgan used during the song and a signed poster was auctioned off for $10,000 before the band closed with an ~18-minute rendition of "Gossamer".
