The evening of August 24, 2000 was The Smashing Pumpkins' VH1 Storytellers taping. This was a VH1 program where artists perform to an intimate live audience and tell stories about their music. This edition took place at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom with an estimated reduced capacity of 200 people. Billy Corgan owns the audio and he has said he plans to release it someday. The all-acoustic performance was the first with touring keyboardist Chris Holmes, and saw the return of Mike Garson after nearly two years. Both would remain touring with the band through the end of the year.
As of the time of writing, this show was the last time "The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete" was performed live. It was also the last "Snail" until a WPC solo set on May 13, 2016, with the next full band performance at the 30th Anniversary Show on August 2, 2018.
This performance of "1979" was the only time in 2000 that Jimmy Chamberlin played drums on the song instead of guitar.
