December 20, 1999 was the first of a pair of special Christmas canned food drive events at the Metro in Chicago. Guests who brought a canned food donation received a signed Christmas card from The Smashing Pumpkins (last picture).

It was bassist Melissa Auf der Maur's first show with the band. The setlist saw the live debuts of a number of Machina-era songs, including "The Everlasting Gaze", "Heavy Metal Machine", "The Crying Tree of Mercury", "I of the Morning", "Pale Scales" and the David Essex cover "Rock On". The second night included the live debut of "We Love You" – a song that would later regularly be played as a concert-closing jam during 2000's Resume the Pose tour.
