On this day in 1998, The Smashing Pumpkins performed at the Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands to roughly 60,000 people. The band was filling in for Pearl Jam and performing in support of Adore, which would be released in the United States the following day.
"Ava Adore" featured an extended percussion section by touring drummers Dan Morris and Stephen Hodges. On the side of the stage, Chino Moreno of The Deftones watches the band intently. It would be over 20 years later that Moreno would be on stage with The Smashing Pumpkins at the 30th Anniversary show in August 2018.
The band's appearance at Pinkpop is also the day Billy Corgan and James Iha had a notably humorous interview with a Dutch reporter about the new Adore album (slides 4-6).
