28 years ago tonight, The Smashing Pumpkins played the grand opening of the famed @930club in Washington, D.C. (formerly known as Nightclub 9:30 at a different location, which the band played twice at in 1991). It was the third night of the Infinite Sadness tour, played to a sold out crowd of 1200 fans, and was followed by an additional night at 9:30 Club on January 6.

Before becoming 9:30 Club, the same building was known as the WUST Music Hall under different management, which the Pumpkins performed at twice during a two-night run on November 20–21, 1993.

9:30 Club also hosted the Zeitgeist record release party on July 10, 2007, which was depicted in the If All Goes Wrong documentary. In 2018, 9:30 Club was named one of the 10 best live music venues in America by Rolling Stone.

In the banter, Corgan joked, "We'd like to comment, this is a pretty cool place, as opposed to the place it used to be," to which Iha replied "I admit, in a past life I was running down the old 9:30 street and I had shot Abraham Lincoln."
