January 2, 1996 was the start of the momentous Infinite Sadness tour, and touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin's first show. The tour kicked off with a two-night run at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, Canada to a capacity of 4,500 fans. The first night saw the live debuts of "In the Arms of Sleep", "1979" and "We Only Come Out at Night". The band would continue to tour in support of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness for another 13 months.
