Billy Corgan commented that the song initially sounded like an outtake from 1995's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, but it was slowed down and given a different drum beat in the course of recording the song. "That's the Way (My Love Is)" has been performed roughly 145 times in full, debuting at the May 22, 2007 reunion show in Paris. When played live on the U.S. leg of the Zeitgeist tour, Lisa Harriton played a keytar at the front of the stage next to Jeff Schroeder. On July 9, the band performed the song on the Late Show with David Letterman (broadcast July 13).
"That's the Way (My Love Is)" peaked at #23 on the US Alternative Airplay chart, and at #94 on the UK singles chart. In 2015, Spin ranked it at #18 out of all 315 Smashing Pumpkins songs released at the time.
