On this day in 1993, a promotional release of Siamese Dream (often referred to as the "Siamese Sampler") was released, with "Cherub Rock", "Today", "Disarm", "Rocket" and "Spaceboy". This came a week ahead of the full release of Siamese Dream.
The song "Spaceboy" is missing the dialogue at the end of the track and is spelled as "Space Boy" on the CD. The French release came with a four-page booklet containing a picture of the band, the Siamese Dream and "Cherub Rock" cover artwork, along with liner notes written in French.
"Spaceboy" is the only song on this release that didn't receive its own dedicated single. Billy Corgan wrote the song as a tribute to his autistic half-brother, Jesse Andersen. Identifying with his brothers frustrations, he said in a 1994 interview: "I feel our lives are similar… Freaks of nature, freaks of society, I always keep going back to something by Henry Miller. No matter how much he smiled, told jokes, shook hands, patted people on the back. People still looked at him funny, they still sensed something wasn’t right. I've always felt that way, that no matter how normal I appear, I was treated differently." The song also features Corgan playing the Mellotron. An alternate version of this song (most commonly seen in the unofficially released collection of rarities Mashed Potatoes) features Pink Floyd-esque slide guitar playing in the chorus instead of the Mellotron.
