"Honestly" by Zwan released February 24, 2003! Written by Billy Corgan, it was the first single from Zwan's album, Mary Star of the Sea.
It is a rock song in the key of D major. Musically, it bears some similarities to the chord progression of Corgan compositions "Today" and the chorus of "Cherub Rock". The guitar parts liberally use a flanger effect.
The has been performed live roughly 82 times – twice as Corgan solo in June 2019, and all other performances on Zwan tours in 2002 and 2003.
The B-side "The Number of the Beast", an acoustic cover version of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, was used in the opening credits of the 2002 film Spun by director Jonas Åkerlund. In Australia and the UK, "Freedom Ain't What It Used to Be" was an additional bonus track and was also featured in Spun, labeled as a Djali Zwan song in the closing credits. Both songs also feature additional vocals and/or piano from Linda Strawberry.
"Honestly" peaked at #3 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, and at #7 on the US Alternative Airplay chart. Internationally, it charted in at least 8 countries. The song is featured on the soundtrack to the 2023 video game Hi-Fi Rush.
