The "Daughter" flexi disc released April 4, 1992! It is a song by The Smashing Pumpkins originally released on 1989's Moon demo. A longer version also recorded at Reel Time Studios was released on a 7" flexi disc to subscribers of the April 4, 1992 issue of Reflex magazine. The flexi disc is single-sided and contained only the one song. The song has never been widely released, as this magazine subscription single was pressed in very limited quantities. Since flexi discs are notoriously unreliable and this one saw limited distribution, it is considered among the rarest Smashing Pumpkins releases.
In the liner notes of the Moon demo, "Daughter" is credited as having been written by both Billy Corgan and bassist D'arcy Wretzky, while the flexi disc attributes it only to Corgan. As confirmed by The Smashing Pumpkins verified Instagram account, the song was indeed written solely by Corgan. If the Moon demo credits were correct, it would make "Daughter" the only non-improvisational song by The Smashing Pumpkins with a songwriting credit to Wretzky.
The only known live performance of "Daughter" by the band took place on May 27, 1989 at the Avalon in Chicago. A recording from this show appears on the Rubano Tapes Vol. 1 archive release.
