Wretzky is a self-taught bass player. She joined SP in 1988, sparked by an argument she had with Billy Corgan after a local concert in Chicago. While she is credited as the bassist on the first five albums, it was confirmed by both her and Corgan that Corgan played the bass tracks for Siamese Dream because he could complete them in fewer takes, and for similar reasons her contributions to Gish were also limited. Wretzky often sang backing vocals in concert and in the studio. She contributed lead vocals on "Daydream" from Gish, as well as backing vocals on Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, and The Aeroplane Flies High.
Corgan considered Wretzky the "moral authority" and "moral conscience" of the band. She endured a miscarriage when recording Mellon Collie, which she felt was stress-related. After the The Arising! tour in April 1999, Wretzky decided to leave the band to pursue an acting career. She was replaced by former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur.
Wretzky contributed vocals to Catherine's final album Hot Saki & Bedtime Stories and appeared in the "Four Leaf Clover" video. At the time, she was married to Catherine member Kerry Brown. She also sang on "One and Two" from James Iha's 1998 solo album, Let It Come Down.
In 1999 she worked with cellist Eric Remschneider, who had recorded with SP. That year she also contributed backing vocals on the Filter songs "Cancer" and "Take a Picture" from Title of Record. In a 2016 interview, singer Richard Patrick spoke of a romantic relationship he had with Wretzky saying she was the subject of a song he wrote called "Miss Blue".
In 2019, Michigan metal band Grave Next Door said they were jamming with Wretzky in her home with one band member posting a pic with a prop from the "Tonight, Tonight" video, which Wretzky was known to possess. In July 2021, IMDb (a user-submitted site) reported her as a musical supervisor for the comedy film Diamond Life, which is still listed as in the pre-production phase.
