The Smashing Pumpkins (also known as the Gish Basement Tape or 5 Song Sampler) is a self-titled promotional release by The Smashing Pumpkins. Around 400 cassettes with handwritten labels were created for booking purposes and distributed to people close to the band as well as at least one radio station.[1] The radio station had a weekly program called Down On The Corner which highlighted artists performing in the area. The recordings are all from the 1989 Reel Time sessions, the same sessions that made up the Moon Demo cassette.
