Banter[edit | edit source]

The Leaving Lament (Billy solo acoustic)
Rotten Apples (Billy acoustic w/Lisa)
BC: Thank you. Like to, uh, play a song I wrote about being in San Francisco. It is a song entitled Peace and Love and All That Other Shit.
Peace + Love (Billy acoustic w/Lisa)
BC: The rock and roll party will be starting shortly. First I must, uh, get all the sad songs out of my system.
99 Floors (acoustic)
No Surrender (acoustic)
Today
> 1979
> United States
Bleeding the Orchid
Lucky 13
(BC after 2 drum intro teases: Jimmy, these people really don’t want to rock, man. They don’t wanna go there. Just accept it.)
BC: Yeaaah. Yup, we’re having amp meltdown, there we go. Jimmy, would you like to tell a story? (Jimmy shakes his head "no") Jimmy doesn’t wanna tell a story. Uh, Jimmy’s married now with children, all his stories are X-rated. ... Well, it’s all gone horribly wrong, our amp has blown up. Yes. No rock power, I can’t have my bad attitude, right? You gotta have the rock power to have the attitude, you know what I’m sayin’? It’s like unh-uh. I’ll tell you a story. (to Jeff) It broke, done broke? Just break it, just...just.... (repeatedly gesturing to Jeff to throw his amp on ground) It’d be good for the DVD. Switch it out, switch it out, might as well get it done now, come on. It’s the black Plumpkin cloud [sic] coming over you. Are you good or are you not good? ... It’s the curse of San Francisco meets the curse of the Smashing Pumpkins and it’s sort of converging into some sort of, uh, earthquake-like, seismic death factory. ... Sorry, don’t know what to tell you. ... Uh oh. Well, in the old days I would actually hand the mic into the audience and let people ask questions, but that’s way too dangerous. We didn’t live in a YouTube world back then.
Girl in crowd: I love you!
BC: Okay, okay. There’ll be time for sex and favors lately...later. Just hold that, let’s just finish the show first please. Uh, I’d buy you a round of drinks but there’s too many of you. Uh, heh heh heh...heh heh. I’ll buy her a drink. Yeah, heh, you, I’ll buy you a drink, heh heh. Heh heh heh. I’d go back to playing some sad solo acoustic songs but you didn’t like those either. Nah, be honest, you didn’t like those that much anyway. You’re just here for the grunge. Just admit it. ... Now they’re throwin’ shit, Jimmy.
Jimmy: (off mic) Just like the old days.
BC: Just like the old days. (to Jeff) You alright? (Jeff shrugs) You wanna break something first and just let it out? Come on, you get those guitars for free, man, just let it go.
Shame
> Hummer
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
BC: Thank you. Thank you. Like to play you a song, uh, from the Zeitgeist album. This is called God and Country.
For God and Country (acoustic)
(BC after first chorus: Sorry, I messed up. I messed up. (goes back into song))
BC: Sorry about that, I’m getting old.
Death From Above (Billy w/Lisa)
BC: Yeah. Take that shit. The, uh, the real show will start right about now. Like to bring a friend out to the stage, Ms. Linda Strawberry.
By Starlight (partial) (Billy solo acoustic)
> To Sheila (acoustic, with Linda Strawberry on vocals)
Tonight, Tonight
Tarantula
Starz
Zero
> Glass and the Ghost Children
BC: We’d now like to play you, um, the next single off Zeitgeist. This is a really pretty song.
Guy in crowd: Quiet!
BC: No, it’s not Quiet from Siamese Dream, no. That’s not the next single, my friend. It’s a song called That’s the Way My Love Is.
That’s the Way
> Superchrist
Starla
(BC over ending: We were once the Smashing Pumpkins. I don’t know what we are now.)
(Jeff furiously throws his guitar on the ground immediately after the song ends and stalks offstage)
[encore break]
BC: Thank you!
Doomsday Clock
Heavy Metal Machine / White Rabbit
(BC over ending: Thank you very much, we’re very sorry.)
[encore break] (house music begins playing during this)
BC: Can we have the house lights on there for a second? Who’s out there?
Zeitgeist (Billy/Jimmy acoustic)
BC: Thank you very much, thank you. You’re giving us the love that we are unable to give us our...you’re giving us the love that we are unable to give ourselves. Heh heh. We don’t love ourselves right now. We’re turning to the big man in the sky asking for some forgiveness for our rock and roll transgressions. Woo. You only get the Amer-, you only, in America you only get the “woo.” You don’t get that in Europe, you don’t get the “woo.” So before we finish for real...we know that our audience doesn’t have jobs but, uh, we do have, uh, things to do. Uh, heh heh. Insult your audience, it’s been a great career strategy for me. As you can tell. Uh, heh heh. No, uh, we thank you very much, you humble us with your kindness. And this next song is our very humble offering to you on the altar of your devotion and, uh, heh heh heh. ‘Course we’re all gonna get together later for cookies and milk. Soy! Soy milk. This is San Fran. Alright, so, uh, god bless you, thank you very much.
