{{social media/instagram|1=Happy birthday to @studiodog ! He has a long history with The Smashing Pumpkins. He played drums on "Blew Away" and produced "Starla" and "Plume" for Pisces Iscariot, as well as "Believe", "...Said Sadly" and "The Boy" with James Iha. He guested at many shows over the years, such as some of 1996's Infinite Sadness tour, when he drummed on "1979" with Jimmy Chamberlin on guitar, and sang on various other songs. 2007's Zeitgeist was recorded in Brown's home studio. At least 300 Smashing Pumpkins songs were recorded there in demo format, including original versions of songs heard on Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.
Prior to joining The Smashing Pumpkins, she was a member of Radio Vago, Chicago alternative act Veruca Salt, Spinnerette, Twilight Sleep, and Light FM, the last of which opened for Billy Corgan's one-off band Backwards Clock Society in November 2009. It was at this show that Fiorentino was pointed out to Corgan by Kerry Brown.

Brown wrote for, drummed, recorded, and produced for his band Catherine until 1998. During some of this time he was married to D'arcy Wretzky, who contributed vocals to their final album. Catherine reunited for one-off 2-song set at a SP concert at the Riveria Theatre in Chicago on October 14, 2011, featuring Billy Corgan on guitar.
In reference to the Oceania sessions, Corgan told the Great Falls Tribune: "She's such a major contributor, and it's such a thrill to work with her. It's interesting as a composer to hand her something and see her come up with melodies that are counterpunctual in a baroque way but yet they sound like they're from a different mindsource as opposed to me writing counterpunctual melodies that sound like they come from one mind. I'm proud to work with her."

Brown played hand drums in Spirits in the Sky, a short lived live band that featured Corgan, Dave Navarro, Mark Tulin, Ysanne Spevack, and future SP drummer Mike Byrne. Brown drummed for the one-off group Backwards Clock Society, which featured Tulin on bass and Corgan on vocals and guitar. They played a single show on November 8, 2009. Future SP bassist Nicole Fiorentino was performing with Light FM at this show, and was pointed out to Corgan by Brown.
Fiorentino played approximately 197 shows with The Smashing Pumpkins, ending with the final Shamrocks & Shenanigans tour date on August 17, 2013 in Sepang, Malaysia. Bass Magazine wrote of her: "Fiorentino's magnetic stage presence and staggering tone made her stand out and become a favorite among fans … When we had a chance to discuss her playing with Billy Corgan, [Corgan] likened her style to that of Chris Squire of Yes, an incisive comparison given Fiorentino's strong rhythmic propulsion and her cutting midrange sound."

In January 2010, Brown announced he started the Startone Records record label with Corgan. The roster was to include Starchildren, The Electric Prunes, The Strawberry Alarm Clock and YaHoWha 13. However, the collaboration fell through so the status of the label is unclear.
