Order of bandsThe Smashing Pumpkins

September 26, 1998 was The Smashing Pumpkins' third appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was the premiere of the show's 24th season, hosted by Cameron Diaz. The band performed "Perfect" in what would be the last performance by touring percussionists Dan Morris and Stephen Hodges.

Unlike the previous two SNL performances, this one saw the band act in a sketch. Prior to performing musical performance, they appear in a Roxbury Guys sketch where Billy Corgan, James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky are seen as fictionalized versions of themselves in the Moomba Club. A character played by Diaz, Celeste enters the club and notes the band’s presence. Corgan asks Celeste if she got his messages and asks for a dance. She gets distracted by the Butabi Brothers (Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan), who she leaves with. When Celeste returns to the club later, Corgan tries again to ask for a dance.[1] Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin also cameo in the sketch.
