September 26, 1998 was The Smashing Pumpkins' third appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was the premiere of the show's 24th season, hosted by Cameron Diaz. The band performed "Perfect" in what would be the last performance with touring percussionists Dan Morris and Stephen Hodges.
Unlike the previous two SNL performances, this one saw the band act in a sketch. Prior to the musical performance, they appear in a Roxbury Guys sketch where Billy Corgan, James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky are seen as fictionalized versions of themselves in the Moomba Club.
