The Spring 1992 Soundworks sessions saw recordings of new material at Kerry Brown's Soundworks studio. Originally meant as demo recordings, The Smashing Pumpkins' label required B-sides for import singles, so some of these recordings such as "Starla" were whipped into a finished state and released.

At least for "Starla" specifically, The Smashing Pumpkins were only able to record at night, possibly due to conflicts with other artists booked at Soundworks. This session, which likely also included "Plume", started at roughly 10 PM and didn't finish until about 7 AM the following morning.[1]
