It is the second track from the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project and featured Billy Corgan, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Mark Tulin (of The Electric Prunes), with production assistance from Kerry Brown. It was first performed their side project, Spirits in the Sky on August 26, 2009 and has also been performed live by both The Smashing Pumpkins and at solo Corgan shows. The song was released as a promotional CD single for radio play and was added to the rotation of several major-market stations. Additionally, The Smashing Pumpkins performed the song live with an Up With People choir on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 20, 2010 to promote the Songs for a Sailor EP release. A limited edition 7" with "A Song for a Son" would be released in April as well.
