"Who We Are" by Jessica Simpson released on this day in 2010! The single was recorded for her reality TV show, The Price of Beauty. Simpson co-wrote the song with Billy Corgan, Evan Bogart and Shari Short, and it was produced by prolific Smashing Pumpkins producer Kerry Brown at his Coldwater Studios. The song was first announced on Corgan and Brown's Twitter in January 2010, and was released digitally on March 9, 2010.
"She asked me to help her out on the theme song for her new TV show," Corgan told the Chicago Tribune. "[The show] has an interesting concept. She goes around the world to show how different people perceive beauty. I ended up writing part of (the theme song). It has a little bit of an alternative rock edge, but it's still very poppy." Simpson later said that Corgan "is very, very dear" to her.
'The Price of Beauty' gained a generally positive reception, pulling in 1 million viewers on its premiere. The show was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award.
