June 28, 2018 was the surprise "1979 house party" show, which was a recreation of the house party that appears in the "1979" music video. Neighbors took issue with the surplus in traffic and some filed noise complaints. Live Nation reportedly rented the house, obtained the proper noise permits, warned neighbors well in advance, and invited all of them to the show. They also informed fans not to park on the street and instead use shuttle buses. While the preparations were still not enough to appease some neighbors, others were elated and watched the show from their backyards.
After the noise complaints, police arrived – some of whom were fans of the band and were reluctant to interrupt the show. They did eventually end the party during the encore before the band could close with "Cherub Rock".
Billy Corgan wrote on Instagram: "Great times in LaLa. Appreciation to those that came out to the Troubadour. And apologies to those in Studio City for the disturbance of our nihilistic noize. ‘Twas a full moon and something just gets into the blood. And respect to the police, who let us finish the set. Mendacious as our conclusion was."
Troubadour refers to the nightclub that the band played at the previous day, which also happened to be James Iha's first full show with The Smashing Pumpkins since rejoining the band, making the "1979 house party" show his second in nearly 18 years.
