Hot Saki & Bedtime Stories by Catherine released September 17, 1996! Former Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'arcy Wretzky, who was married to drummer Kerry Brown at the time, provides vocals on "Four Leaf Clover" and "Punch Me Out". "Four Leaf Clover" was released as a single and has a music video featuring Wretzky. She joined the band to sing on two songs at a single show on November 7, 1996.
In their retrospective review, AllMusic called Hot Saki & Bedtime Stories "an even more varied and generally successful package" than Catherine's previous studio album, Sorry!, also adding that "the ghost of Corgan crunch yet lurks throughout" the album.
Wretzky told MTV's 120 Minutes that Catherine was looking for a "girl/boy kind of thing" when they asked her to provide backup vocals on the record. She said the collaboration worked really well with singer Mark Rew's vocals, and that at times the listener can't infer which of the two are singing.
Catherine disbanded in 1998. They reunited to play two songs during the encore of the October 14, 2011 Smashing Pumpkins show at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago, with Corgan on guitar. Wretzky was not present.
