Lyrics[edit | edit source]

My dearest dear, the time draws near
When you and I must part
But little do you know the grief and woe
Of my poor troubled heart

As I walked out one summer night
Drinking wine
A pretty girl crossed my path
And stole this heart of mine

Hush, my love
For you will break my heart
Never let me hear you cry

I wish your breast was made of glass
And in it I'd behold
Your name and secrets I could write
In letters of bright gold

Who will shoe your feet, my love?
Who will glove your hands?
Who will kiss those rosy lips
From where I stand?

As you are like some turtle dove
That flies from tree to tree
Mourning is just one true love [sic]
As I am made for thee

Hush, my love
For you will break my heart
Never let me hear you cry

My dearest dear, the time draws near
When you and I must part
But little do you know the grief and woe
Of my poor troubled heart
Of my poor troubled heart
