No Alternative released November 9, 1993! It included "Glynis" by The Smashing Pumpkins, and would remain the only official release to include this song until a new mix appeared on the 2012 re-issue of Pisces Iscariot. No Alternative was a benefit for AIDS relief through the Red Hot Organization, and "Glynis" was dedicated to former Red Red Meat bassist Glynis Johnson, who died from AIDS complications in 1992. Red Red Meat opened for The Smashing Pumpkins during the Rock Invasion tour, and they also recorded the song "Sad Peter Pan" with SP.

In the "Glynis" recording, an old Speak & Spell toy "hello" starts the song, and the soupy solo in the middle is the result of double-tracked guitars fed through a vintage Electro-Harmonix Bassballs pedal.

A television special hosted by MTV and a VHS home video release of No Alternative featured live performances, music videos, and information about AIDS. The video also contains a brief interview with Billy Corgan, along with versions of "Glynis" and "Today" performed live to an MTV audience. This performance was the only time The Smashing Pumpkins ever performed "Glynis" live.

Other artists on No Alternative include Soundgarden, Goo Goo Dolls, Beastie Boys, Soul Asylum and Nirvana, among others. Stereogum lauded the album, saying "it captures the American alternative scene at its commercial, cultural, and critical peak." AllMusic gave it 4.5/5 stars, highlighting "Glynis" as one of the "exceptional songs".

No Alterntaive climbed to #56 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1993, becoming the most commercially successful benefit album of the year. It was certified gold (500,000 copies sold) in 1995 by the RIAA.
