"Cardinal Rule" is a song by The Smashing Pumpkins that was recorded during the March-April 2014 – Pumpkinland II sessions and likely intended for Day For Night, which was the abandoned sister-album to Monuments to an Elegy. Ultimately it was never officially released along with many other songs from those sessions, though it was performed live a number of times in late 2015 and during the In Plainsong tour. Billy Corgan described it as a "gorgeous as a fingerpicking-type song, we started breaking apart the internal rhythms to be voiced on various 'things.'"[1]
“ | Was able to turn the corner on it by stripping back the busy/arpeggiating figures taken from the original guitar part; until all that was left was a simple chimed guitar and strings. | ” |

Lyrics
Half a world of winter light
Half a world of summer
But I don't know what [to grow/go] for right now
But you don't know my slumber
Come find me
Come find me, summer
Come find me
Come find me, summer
Half a world of bliss
Is half a world of you
You say everything I want, it's true
Well, I say everything I want, is you
Won't you
Like a butterfly reaching out to someone
Half a world's numbed next to you
Don't you know the reasons for such heartache
Are true
Come find me, summer
Come find me
Come find me, summer
Come find me
Come find me, summer
