— Jimmy Chamberlin, American Songwriter interview[1] |
Background
Chamberlin has said the album came together organically from a 2018 jam session between him, Billy Mohler and Sean Woolstenhulme, with "no agenda other than self expression."[2] In just a few hours, they recorded basic parts from some riffs they enjoyed, and sent them out to fellow musicians Ben Wendell, Frank Catalano, Adam Benjamin and Shane Endsley to record additional parts.[3] "The genre swapping is just a natural occurrence," he told American Songwriter. "We all live in slightly different musical environments, and those influences and nuances become a part of the music. We don’t talk about genres. Generally anything that is appealing is acceptable and merits further investigation regardless of where it lives. It makes it much more interesting to create in those widened parameters and makes many more things available."[1]
In making the album, Chamberlin was thinking of his two teenage children and the challenges they face. However despite the album and song titles, he said "I want people to come to their own conclusions" through their listening. "If the album’s title is an impetus for self-reflection, then that’s cool too," he added.[1]
