"Widow Wake My Mind" released January 18, 2010! It is the second track from the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project and featured Billy Corgan, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Mark Tulin (of The Electric Prunes), with production assistance from Kerry Brown. It was first performed their side project, Spirits in the Sky on August 26, 2009 and has also been performed live by both The Smashing Pumpkins and at solo Corgan shows. The song was released as a promotional CD single for radio play and was added to the rotation of several major-market stations. Additionally, The Smashing Pumpkins performed the song live with an Up With People choir on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 20, 2010 to promote the Songs for a Sailor EP release. A limited edition 7" with "A Song for a Son" would be released in April as well.

William Goodman of Spin gave "Widow Wake My Mind" a positive review, describing it as "a well-crafted pop-rock song with spare piano interludes, never-overbearing drums, and a big, song-capping vocal with polished guitar solos," who also praised Mike Byrne's drumming skills. Spin magazine called the song "a very pleasant surprise", while Rolling Stone included it in their "hot list", calling it "[Corgan's] sweetest pop melody since Kennedy left MTV."
