Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Intro
Tonight, Tonight
> Cherub Rock
> Where Boys Fear to Tread
BC: Hi, thank you very much, good evening everybody. We are the Smashing Pumpkins, very nice to be here. We hope y’all have a good time, um, Van Halen will be out shortly to finish up the show. We’d like to carry on right now with a song called Rhinoceros.
Rhinoceros
Rocket
> Zero
Fuck You
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
Iha: Thank you very much. If you didn’t know that song, that was Porcelina, that was our big prog rocker.
La Dolly Vita (tease) (acoustic)
> Thirty-three (acoustic)
BC: Thank you. [tape cut] ...and we hope to do it in our music. This is a song that uh, we kinda got sick of playing for a while, so we stopped playing it, so we thought that we would play it for you tonight.
Today (acoustic)
(BC as Iha solos during extended outro: Go, man, go, take off, woo!)
Circus tape
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Iha: Hells yeah. Gracias, thank you. That was, of course, our big big big single from our album. It was a rocker. We wrote that song in a rock quarry with the mud people, that’s where it all started. And now we’re gonna start a new thing. A song about dogs. That’s what this next song is about, so read into the title. Or maybe you don’t want to read about the title, maybe you wanna be doing something else, do you wanna hear some Bush songs?
Swallowed (tease - Iha sings a few words and plays guitar, Matt joins in briefly)
Iha: (singing) Swallowed. (normal voice) Yeah! (singing) Swallowed. (screams) (tease ends) Now, what is he doing in that video? He--there’s something about Gavin being a fly or something and he kills the fly and he gets reborn, what is that--what’s up with that? Gavin, what’s up with that fly thing you got in your video? We will never put a fly in our videos, safe to say. Although, I might be in a dress in a video but we’ll never have a fly. You want to intro or...? [unintelligible sentence].
BC: James?
Iha: Yes.
BC: This song needs no intro.
Iha: Then [unintelligible stammering], okay, no fly [unintelligible word], no fly.
Muzzle
Disarm
> Planet of the Apes clip
> Thru the Eyes of Ruby
[encore break]
Iha: Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special guest on the stage. A good friend of ours all the way from Milwaukee, the city you know and love, of the band--the critically acclaimed band--the Frogs, put your hands together for Jimmy Frog. Jimmy Frog. Three time Grammy winner. Jimmy has been a [unintelligible word] of the arts and film field as a friend and patron of it and he has given his life to it.
Jimmy Frog: We received a fan letter earlier from Miss Bonnie Thomas, if she’s here, we’d like to bring her up on stage right now.
Iha: Well, there seem to be--
Jimmy Frog: Bonnie, stand up.
Iha: Haha! That was a good one, that was a good [unintelligible word] prank. Alright.
BC: Ladies and gentlemen, we’re in the audience portion of our show, audience participation time, who would like to come on stage and dance?
Iha: Who shall dance?
BC: Jimmy, pick [2 unintelligible words]. Matt, a disco beat, please.
(Matt starts a disco beat)
Lovefool (tease - Billy sings bits and pieces of one chorus over the beat)
Iha: Whoa yeah.
BC: Oh yeah, we’re kickin’ it with some love here tonight.
Iha: [unintelligible]
BC: Put your hands in the air like you just don’t care. Oh yeah! Wooooooo! Now, there’s been a lot of rumors and it’s true, we’re going disco, look out. I hope you liked the rock while it lasted.
(Matt changes to a hip hop beat)
Iha: I can see the--
[tape cut, Matt has stopped when we come back in]
Iha: Well....
BC: Please tell everyone the rules, James.
Iha: Ladies and gentlemen, we have two rules for our dancers. Dancers, listen up. Do not touch us, do not touch our shit. Alright. And for those of you who cannot dance with us on stage, I encourage you to dance on stage with us but do it in your mind, the power of the mind is a great one.
1979 (with Jimmy Flemion)
(BC over drawn out last note: Ladies and gentlemen, tonight’s Jack[unintelligible but not “sonville”] dancers and Mr. Jimmy FROG!)
Iha: Alright, perhaps you are shocked and dismayed at what happened with the show, I had all this momentum going and I just went...right down the toilet. Well, we can only say that we will carry on rocking and perhaps redeem ourselves, let’s have a fine round of applause for our dancers tonight, they tried...interesting forms of dancing, things I’ve never quite seen on TV shows, but uh...
Hello Kitty Kat (tease - Billy plays a few seconds)
Iha: But now, we are going to play more songs and there are no more dancers.
BC: Alright, get the hell off our stage, get out!
Iha: Alright.
Obscured (tease)
> Tristessa (tease)
> Slunk (tease)
> Landslide (tease)
> Quiet (tease)
> Mouths of Babes (tease)
> Rotten Apples (tease)
> To Forgive (tease - Billy plays about 8 seconds of the beginning)
BC: You like that song that much? Alright. If you like it that much, we’ll play it.
Iha: There may be mistakes.
To Forgive
X.Y.U.
[encore break]
Iha: Thank you, [unintelligible word or two].
Drown
> Hummer (tease)
Siva / The Great White Buffalo / Spiders (w/Star Spangled Banner tease in intro)
[encore break]
The Aeroplane Flies High
> Silverfuck / Space Jam
