On April 30, 2022 The Smashing Pumpkins performed at the annual Beale Street Music Festival as the first date of 2022's Rock Invasion 2 tour. The band was scheduled to perform at the 2020 festival as part of the original Rock Invasion 2 tour, but it along the whole tour were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The show was delayed by 90 minutes due to an emergency evacuation of the crowd following bad weather. Some fans reported hiding in the portable toilets for up to an hour to avoid having to leave the venue and still maintain a spot close to the stage.
This show was notable for having the first non-VIP full-band performance of "Ugly", and for the resurgence of the Talking Heads cover "Once in a Lifetime" which had not been performed since the band's breakup in 2000.
