A press conference and autograph signing were held earlier in the day at Newbury Comics in Cambridge. Wristbands for admission to the signing were given out to fans through radio contests. A check for $109,200 was presented to the Children's AIDS Program. Mayor Tom Menino declared July 31st "Smashing Pumpkins Day" in Boston.
