Jack Bates (born 1989[1]) is an English musician. He plays bass for Peter Hook and The Light along with his father, Peter Hook. Hook is also the bassist and co-founder of English rock bands Joy Division and New Order. Billy Corgan recorded and toured with New Order in 2001, and it was during this time that Bates first met Corgan. By 2010, Bates had grown to be a big fan of The Smashing Pumpkins, and Corgan would join Hook, Bates and his band whenever they played in Chicago.[1]

In 2014, Mark Stoermer left his role as touring Smashing Pumpkins bassist as he shifted focus back to his band, The Killers. Corgan asked Bates if he was interested in filling in, and he agreed without hesitation.[1] Bates debuted with the band on July 7, 2015 at the start of The End Times tour, and he continues to play bass with the band to this day. It all culminated on August 2, 2018 when Corgan, Bates and Hook shared the stage at the 30th Anniversary show in New Jersey.
