"Anno Satana" is the third single from The Smashing Pumpkins' eleventh studio album, CYR, released with "Birch Grove" as an accompanying A-side. The music video was released on October 9, 2020 as part of the In Ashes animated series written by Billy Corgan.
Consequence called "Anno Satana" a "thunderous" new wave song, and praised the "glacial bath of synths" of the accompanying "Birch Grove", adding that both songs demand re-listens.[1]
Videos[edit | edit source]
The music video for "Anno Satana" served as episode 3 of the In Ashes animated series. In this episode, entitled "I'm In Love With Your God" (the main lyric on "Purple Blood"), the two of the main protagonists stumble upon a cult-style ritual taking place in the woods, where they are captured. They follow the dance moves of the antagonists, and the situation grows more tense putting the two in seeming peril.[2]
