November 2005-February 2006 – Scottsdale and The Alley
The November 2005-February 2006 sessions in Scottsdale, Arizona were rehearsals and demoing sessions for The Smashing Pumpkins' seventh studio album, Zeitgeist. Additional tracking was also done at The Alley Rehearsals in Los Angeles.

Not long after Billy Corgan announced intentions to revive the band, him and Jimmy Chamberlin rented and lived in a five-acre ranch in Scottsdale to write and rehearse new songs. They also spent a lot of time simply talking about music, which Corgan felt was just as important as recording.[1] For inspiration they listened to Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.[2]
Within three weeks of practicing, the pair decided between the two of that that they had recaptured the sound of the band and prepared to record a new album.[3] Roughly 30 mostly instrumental song ideas were tracked on Corgan's TASCAM Portastudio – the same recorder used to track demos for Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.[4]
