Iha: Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Irvine. South Orange County and the surrounding areas. We’re so happy that you’re here, we are the Smashing Pumpkins, thank you.
Today
Perfect
Disarm (acoustic)
The Celestials
Purple Blood
Ava Adore
(BC after Jimmy solo: Ow! Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin on the drums! Joliet in the house. Juh juh juh juh juh juh, Joliet.)
Iha: Thank you so much. You guys have been great. We appreciate it. How are you doing, are you having a reasonable time tonight? Awesome, thank you.
BC: Space cowboy, how you feelin’ tonight?
Iha: I’m feelin’ great. I’m feelin’ great, how are you doing?
The Joker (tease, acoustic - Billy)
BC: I’m feelin’ good, feelin’ good.
Iha: It’s a beautiful night out here in Southern California. Nothing better do [sic] than to rock. Well, rock with the acoustic.
BC: Thank you so much for being with us tonight, we appreciate you more than we could ever say in a million songs. James and I started this band about 36 years ago or so. Give or take, heh heh.
Iha: OMG, it’s a long -– long ass time ago.
BC: And now that you’re a –- uh, a resident of the state of California....
Iha: Yeah, I-I enjoy the uh, climate here.
BC: Ever since you moved out here, I don’t know you anymore, you’re very different.
Iha: You got that California vibe. Heh heh heh heh.
BC: So that would be what, stoned and paying a lot of taxes?
Iha: I like -- I like driving, sitting in traffic, it’s pretty cool, heh.
BC: Heh. We’re so happy to be with you, we’re so happy to be on this tremendous bill of music with Rival Sons and Stone Temple Pilots.
Iha: Thank you to those awesome bands, thank you to Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Sons.
BC: What a...honor it is to play with these great bands. Like to say a little quick prayer for our brother Robbie Robertson who passed today at 80. From the Band, Robbie Robertson passed today.
Iha: It was a great band, the Band.
BC: I could say on a personal note that I met Robbie many times and he was always incredible with me. And let me tell you, when you’re a young artist and an older legendary artist treats you with love and respect, it always sticks with you, so it’s our way of paying respect back to him and his great music and his great band. Somewhere in the cosmos, at least four of ‘em are playing Up on Crickle Creek. Cripple Creek, Crickle Creek, Cripple Creek?
Iha: A creek.
BC: And James wants to honor Robbie by playing a solo version tonight of the great song, um...The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, thank you James.
Iha: We haven’t rehearsed that. We haven’t rehearsed that, so...we’re gonna come back to that on another night. But don’t worry, we got some more jams for you.
BC: That’s not fair, I put him on the spot. He’s actually gonna perform an acoustic set for you now of late ‘60s French pop music.
Iha: Hey...I don’t give a fuck, let’s do it.
BC: James?
Iha: Yes?
BC: These people are so great tonight...
Iha: Yes?
BC: ...what do you think about giving ‘em a little rap?
Iha: That’s....
BC: Can you give him some encouragement?
(crowd cheers and Billy starts playing muted guitar)
Iha: Southern California, you’re blazin’ in my mind. It’s crazy in my mind. I can’t stop...thinkin’ about you, (laughing) Southern California. (Billy stops guitar) That -- that’s all I got, uh, tonight and it’s wonderful--
BC: He’s workin’ on it, he’s workin’ on it.
Iha: It’s wonderful to be here in Irvine and south Orange County, uh...but don’t worry, we’re gonna get back to our set, we’re gonna stop fuckin’ around and....
BC: I believe this venue is sold out tonight, thanks to you. You know the old joke: “Hey bro, you sold out.” And we say, of course, “Yeah, we sold out the fuckin’ arena.” Heh heh heh. So we’d like to dedicate this song to everyone here. Love each other, be kind to each other, it’s a crazy world...but we have Tonight, Tonight?

Jeff, is there anything that typifies Southern California that you could play on a guitar riff?
