Ava Adore
(BC after Jimmy solo: Ow! Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin on the druuums! Ow! Spooky vibes, spooky vibes.)
Iha: Thank you guys so much. How are you guys doin'? Happy fuckin' Halloween.
BC: James, how you feelin’ tonight?
Iha: I’m feelin’ good, feelin’ good. Uh, been around for thousands of years, cooped up, just waitin’ to get out, mix it up. (laughing) Okay, how are you?
BC: Well, you know, heh heh heh....
Iha: Heh heh. This is where the show goes off the rails. They’re like, “It’s pretty good, pretty good show [sic]. And then they just went off the rails.”
BC: First of all, you look spectacular. You look fantastic.
Iha: Thank you. I’ve got a lot of people to thank. Uh....
BC: Your mother. Your mom.
Iha: It -– it goes much deeper than that. Ancient history.
BC: But it strikes me...and I look like this every day, heh heh...
Iha: Right, right, okay.
BC: ...so, it’s kind of a weird thing, ‘cause I’m not dressed up and you’re dressed up.
Iha: Right.
BC: So....
Iha: [3 unintelligible words].
BC: What was the famous song? Um...
Every Day Is Halloween (acoustic) (tease - Billy quietly plays a little)
Iha: Wha -- I heard that, what is that?
BC: I fucked up, hold on.
Every Day Is Halloween (acoustic) (tease - Billy plays the same thing louder)
BC: Every Day Is Halloween.
Iha: Ah, okay. I thought you were playing, like, Abracadabra by Steve Miller.
BC: James, we’ve been coming up to Milwaukee since 1988.
Iha: That’s a hard road.
BC: Just a -– just a stone’s throw up the road.
Iha: We’re lucky we didn’t get our ass kicked back then.
BC: Well, when we weren’t evading Jeffrey Dahmer...uh...over there at the old uh...what was that club called?
(crowd yelling)
Iha: Uh....
BC: Jimmy knows.
Iha: We paid our dues in Milwaukee, we play –- played here a lot and it’s uh, it’s always been a great gig.
BC: Our second gig in Milwaukee...with Jimmy, our second gig ever as a band, the original, O.G. SP...
Iha: Right...
BC: ...was in Milwaukee.
Iha: ...here in Milwaukee.
BC: And uh, the second song, a guy tried to pick a fight with me. So that’s my memory, that’s all I’ve got to share. But thank you, um, it’s so nice to see everyone, what a beautiful, fantastic evening. Faces we know, faces we don’t know. Old school fans, new school fans. Happiness reigns in the kingdom of the Pumpkin king.
Iha: We’d like to thank Jane’s Addiction. Poppy.
Mountain Song (acoustic) (tease - Billy plays a little)
Iha: We guy uh –- we have a special guest later in our set which we’re excited about.
BC: So to get this thing back on the rails. Like to dedicate this song to everyone here, thank you for 34 years of the Smashing Pumpkins. It’s a little song we like to call.... I was gonna go for like a Mumford & Son mummy thing and then I lost it. Heh.
Iha: That’s –- that’s fun.
BC: (laughing) It’ll come to me. Here's a little song we like to call Tonight, Tonight.
Tonight, Tonight (Billy/Iha acoustic)
Starla
Stand Inside Your Love
I of the Mourning
Iha: I’d like to uh, introduce the band. On vocals, all the way from Australia, Ms. Katie Cole. Katie Cole. All the way from Manchester, England, on the bass guitar, Mr. Jack Bates. Jack Bates. Hell of a guy. All the way from Hollywood, California, Mr. Jeff Schroeder! You gotta play something from Milwaukee, Jeff. You wanna play Van Halen? They don’t give a fuck.
Blister in the Sun (tease - Billy plays the riff once and gestures at Iha)
Iha: Oh yeah! (singing) When I’m a-walkin’, I strut... (speaking) On the drums...on the drums, the legendary Mr. Jimmyyyy Chamberlin! Jimmy Chamberlin. And now, on lead vocals, lead guitar, Mr. Billyyyyyyy Corgan! Alright. Gonna play a great song. You’re gonna like this one. It’s called Cherub Rock.
