Today
Iha: Alright alright, thank you so much, Santa Barbara, California. Thank you for coming out on a beautiful night like tonight...in a beautiful place, how are you? (crowd cheers) Alright. We're just starting, we're gonna reel off 30, 40 more hit tracks.
Ugly
Drown
Quiet
Iha: Thank you so much. We are the Smashing Pumpkins...and that was Quiet.
Cyr
Once in a Lifetime
Iha: I think, I think this town is too beautiful to rock in, this...cool breeze. Moderate temperatures, it's very nice.
BC: I think...James Iha....
Iha: Yeah, what?
BC: James!...
Iha: Yes?
BC: ...Iha, I've known you for 35 years.
Iha: It's been a while.
BC: You like the good life, you are a resident of the state of California.
Iha: Yes. It's very nice apart from the wildfires.
BC: Unlike us dummies, you got out of Illinois.
Iha: Heh heh heh. I mean--
BC: These beautiful people are here to rock, I can feel it. And rock them we shall.
Iha: Alright, I'm with them.
Solara
Eye
Ava Adore
(BC before bridge: Jeffrey, give these good people some Eddie Van Halen.)
Iha: Thank you, thank you so much. Santa Barbara. Uh, we appreciate you coming out so much tonight and it's uh, it's a very beautiful night and we are grateful for your presence tonight. And I think this is, now what I'm feeling, it's like...it's organic with the uh, the wind and the moderate temperatures. Heh.
BC: Peaceful emee -- easy feeling?
Iha: Yeah.
BC: Peaceful easy feeling?
Iha: I hate to harp on the moderate temperatures but it's so nice out tonight and it's just, it's great being here with you.
BC: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being with us on this beautiful evening. We are, hopefully as you know, the Smashing Pumpkins. And we'll be here relatively soon playing with a little band you might've heard called Jane's Addiction.
Iha: If you're brave.
BC: You ever hear of them, James?
Iha: Yes. Also residents of California.
Jane Says (tease - Billy strums opening chords and Iha joins in for a few seconds)
Iha: (singing) Don't know, don't know.
BC: (singing) Don't know, don't know. (speaking) We love our brothers in Jane's Addiction, we're so excited to be playing with them soon at the Hollywood Bowl. You ever hear of the Hollywood Bowl? (crowd cheers)
Iha: Heh, I heard somebody booing, they're like "Fuck that place! We got this place!" This is awesome in here. I could uh...I could turn this into an Airbnb and rent it out and sleep out here.
BC: So...we'd like to kick it down for a second, that doesn't mean talk, that means just kick it down. Heh heh heh. Heh. You know god built these beautiful hills for talking, that's why we're all standing here, and um...I digress. We'd like to play this beautiful song for you that we wrote about 1994...or so. And we'd like to take a moment to thank you so much for spending this evening with us, for supporting us, for supporting our families, for supporting our music. I may be a creepy vampire but I have dreams too. It's true. And um...as we like to say, we dedicate this song to each and every one of you. It's a little song called Tonight, Tonight.
Tonight, Tonight (Billy/Iha acoustic)
Stand Inside Your Love
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (tease)
> Cherub Rock
> Zero
> Love Gun (tease)
Telegenix
Iha: How are you guys doin', you guys doin' alright? Still ready to rock more? We got more rockers.
FOL
BC over extended outro: But what I really wanna know...do you feel James's love? It's a big love. Do you feel Jeff's love? All the way from England, do you feel Jack's love? And the best drummer in the whole fuckin' world, do you feel his love? But you know, I don't feel like they feel my love.
Iha: I don't know! I think they do.
BC: I think I just got booed for the first time on the tour.
Iha: No no, I think they do!
BC: It usually comes earlier in the tour but it still works.
Iha: You gotta take that energy and channel it through your Chicago blues upbringing.
(Billy brief solo)
BC: You think they're feelin' my love now?
Iha: Oh yeah. (Billy doodles more) You could do this all fuckin' night, play the blues. (Billy stops)
BC: Now is this where I should resort to tricks to make them love me more?
Iha: Yes, yes. (Billy briefly tries to play his guitar with his teeth) Oh my god.
BC: My teeth are crooked enough. (more doodling) Do they have a lively blues scene here in Santa Barbara?
Iha: Yeah, I think there's a good theater scene as well, there's a hot...
BC: I'm guessing, I'm gonna go...
Iha: ...there's a hot yoga place.
BC: ...kick it down, kick it down. (band stops) I'm guessing they have about 47 Grateful Dead bands here and so I'm gonna go out on a limb on that.
Iha: Hoho!
BC: Is that accurate?
Iha: They're like...(band starts again)..."Jerry still lives, man."
BC: Truckin'...Truckin'.
Iha: Oh, [unintelligible] to do Truckin'.
BC: You gotta do one like Jerry would do it. (Billy solos like Jerry Garcia)
Iha: Hot lick.
BC: You havin' a good time? (crowd cheers) Woo! I love that, thank you so much. God bless you, thank you. (song ends)
