(BC: Ladies, gentlemen, friends, lovers, beasts or fowl, welcome to the show. We are the illuminated, the illustrious, the ill-timed knock. (two snare drum hits) Ah yes, we are the fractured, the schisms, the rift and the rabble, the sleepy clown, the atomized downs, the dreams you stopped dreaming oh so long ago. Yes, all colors mixed and marred make up the black, as do all numbers fix up the zero, zed and null. So let’s go back to your beginnings, as I shall go back to mine. It won’t last, it’ll be quick, but then again, that’s why we’re here. No past, no future, no sun. So let’s blow on fading embers, to boast about kings near, forgotten and buried. Tis the end. Tis the end. Tis the end.)

The Everlasting Gaze
Stand Inside Your Love
Iha: Thank you, thank you. Denver. How the hell are you? Awesome. Thank you so much for coming out tonight, we really appreciate it. We are happy to be here in elevated altitude, I feel so lightheaded. It’s about the third way through our set, we’re just kinda cruising right now, we’re gonna get to the really good part of the set. This is from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, it’s called Thirty-three.

(Mark McGrath: Well, hello there, neighbors! Are you enjoying the show thus far? Well, good, I am too, even though I’m not real. Now, if I could steal a moment of your time, I’d like to introduce somebody verrry special to you. He’s been a friend and a neighbor to each and every one of you. He’s been the voice you might hear in the stiiill of the night or a night dog straining against the moon. And, in fact, this young man has been with you almost every step along the way on life’s long journey, sighing so ever soft. He’s been a lover, a fighter, but never a cad. A beacon, a searchlight piercing every impenetrable fog. And he’s here, just now, to sing for you, that golden chestnut we like to call Blew Away. So gather round, ‘cause here he is: the one, the only, Mr. Jaaaaames Iha.)

> Stairway to Heaven
Iha: Thank you. Thank you for taking that stairway to heaven with us in this night. It’s a big surprise, right, how he goes into those chords, you’re like “Oh my god, are they actually doing this song?” Surprised - it was a surprise to me at rehearsal. Alright! An introduction of the band. On the keyboards, acoustic guitar, vocals, all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Ms. Katie Cole! Beautiful. And now, all the way from Manchester, England, on the bass guitar, Mr. Jack Bates!
Money (tease - Jack)
Iha: (singing) Money! Get back. I don’t give a crap...‘bout those...(speaking) no, actually, that’s an awesome song, I’ve just heard it way too many times in my life, like Stairway. But both awesome songs. Alright, and now, from Los Angeles, California, on the guitar, Mr. Jeff Schroeder! Alright, gonna go with the silent introduction on that one. A man who needs no introduction, on the drums, all the way from the Midwest, from the state of Illinois, Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin!
Detroit Rock City (tease - Jeff)
Iha: Anybody knew [unintelligible 1-2 words] that song? I’m not gonna get crazy with that song tonight. On guitar, sometime backing vocals, I’m James Iha, thank you so much. And MC, part-time MC. And now, on lead vocals, lead guitar, all the way from the great state of Illinois, Mr. William Patrick Corgan!

(Mark McGrath: Well, wowie zowie, papa ooh maow maow! What a wang dang and doodle of a show. And, it ain’t over yet. Now I don’t know about you but this next tune is one of my faaaaaaves. Reminds me of drivin' down the old PCH, high out of my mind on ecstasy and I was singing the chorus of the song you’re about to hear so hard and so on high, that one of my front teeth fell right out! Yup, plain out right there in the dashboard. Wow. That decade was just, just so good, wasn’t it? I mean, here you have young wash masters rising up to start a musical and cultural revolution that was soon co-opted by the machine and driven asunder! Gee golly. But thankfully, what we got in return was just so much better. I mean, let’s face it, who doesn’t want perfection in their stars above? ‘Cause perfect people making perfect, sweet music is, well, it’s just, it’s just what a god wants for all of us! Whoo! Red light, stop, it’s raining. The air is cool and the sky is gray and the year? Well, it’s 1979!)

Iha: Alright alright alright, Denver, thank you so much. Thank you so much for staying with us, sticking with us. It’s a long...ass show. You guys have been really great, we appreciate it and we’re uh, we’re so happy to be here. And uh, also I should say, this was our last night with Metric, we’d like to thank Metric a lot, they are a great band, thank you. And now...our last song.
BC: Do you not want me to talk to everyone?
Iha: What?
BC: Are you trying to cut me off from talking to everyone?
Iha: No, no no no, just say whatever the hell you want to say.
BC: He knows what happens when I start talking, trouble ensues. Woo, mile high. (Iha laughs) Did you have a good time?! Yeaaah. Alright, we appreciate you, we love you, we’re so grateful for you, thank you. We started this band 30 years ago. 30 years, heh heh heh heh, 30 years of mayhem. Thank you, thank you for making it all happen for us, thank you. I mean, at the very least, you got us out of fuckin’ Chicago, so thank you for getting us out of Chicago. Heh, Jimmy would like to personally thank you for getting him out of Joliet.
(Jeff quietly doodling)
Iha: Chicago blues, Jeff.
BC: You guys want us to just play some blues and just...?
Iha: (quietly) Yeah, [unintelligible word or two].
BC: I think you should rap over the blues though, heh heh.
Iha: Yeah?
BC: It’s been a while since I heard you rap, heh heh heh.
Iha: I need a - a beat.
BC: You need a beat.
(Jimmy starts a beat)
Iha: Is that a hip hop beat? Denver. The clouds, the sky. You make me wonder why. You’re so crazy, I can’t stop this feeling with this guitar. (trails off laughing) Sorry. Life is so crazy. See those birds flying high and I wonder how I can reach them. Woo! Yeah, this is the worst (Jimmy stops) but the best of times.
BC: I thought you were gonna do some trap shit or something, you know?
Iha: Oh, well, I - fuck that.
BC: You can do trap, right? Alright, last song! Woo, mile high!
Iha: We just - we just get into random stuff right at the very end, we got a lot of random stuff.
BC: If you know this song, please sing along! It’s from that album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Released in 1995. It got two and a half stars in Rolling Stone. And as you all know, the album was a dismal failure and uh, we appreciate that over the years, the fans have kept the music alive. So here’s a song (laughing) from that album.
Muzzle
(BC immediately after lyrics finish: Thank you, Denverrrr!)
[encore break]
