Banter[edit | edit source]
Lou from ECW: Hey Philadelphia! You guys ready to rock and roll? Hey, let me ask you a question: do you guys like Britney Spears? (crowd boos) Well, how ‘bout, how ‘bout Ashlee Simpson? (crowd boos) How about.... How ‘bout the Smashing Pumpkins?! (crowd cheers) Well, I got news for you: I hate the Smashing Pumpkins. (crowd boos) I hate the Philadelphia Eagles (crowd boos), I hate the Philadelphia Phillies (crowd boos), I hate the Philadelphia Flyers (crowd boos), and I hate each and every one of you. See, I told Billy Corgan a long time ago, there’s no way you can sell four shows out in Philadelphia. Philadelphia won’t support you for four shows ‘cause Philadelphia’s full of sellouts. But nooooo, Billy Corgan and his big ego had to go ahead with a fourth show. So in this, in this great marketing scheme that he has, tomorrow night they’re gonna play an acoustic set--hey, hold on--and they’re gonna play an electric set. So I mean, are you people actually gonna come back tomorrow night to see the Smashing Pumpkins play an acoustic set and an electric set? See? See, that’s the problem. It’s because of all of you MORONS that the Smashing Pumpkins have a job in the first place. So I’m gonna save everybody a lot of trouble and I’m just gonna go ahead and cancel the show for tonight. So get up and get out of my building! Get up, get out, the show is over, the show is canceled. What? Are you guys gonna do something about it? You guys can’t do anything about it. Why are the house lights going off? Turn the lights on, the show is canceled. Show is canceled, cut the lights. Go ahead--and there’s no refunds, I’m stealing all your money. What’s happening here? What’s going on...I just, I just canceled the show. (intro tape starts) The Smash.... WHAT??!! (Lou wanders offstage)

BC: Thank you, thank you. How’s everybody doing, you okay? Thank you very much for coming. Like to play a song...sir, I see your sign. You can put your sign down. Okay? This man’s been requesting a song for two shows. We don’t know how to play the song but he holds up the sign. Sir, you can put the sign down. Okay, we’d like to play a song from our recently released album Zeitgeist, this is a song called Neverlost.

BC: Thank you very much, thank you, thank you. Thank you very much for listening to my songs, I appreciate it from my heart, thank you, my heart. Tomorrow’s our last show here and, uh, we decided to, uh, since it’s our last show here, we’re gonna do a set tomorrow, we’re gonna play an acoustic set and an electric set, which we don’t do very often. And there’s some tickets left for tomorrow if any of you want to come out and see that. It’ll be much better than this show, I promise. Just kidding. And, uh, I just wanna say, the guy that came out before the band, he’s just a friend of mine. He’s from Philadelphia, he used to be in ECW, wrestling fans. Yes. If anyone remembers my time at ECW.... I once hit him with a guitar, actually two times. So, that’s my friend Lou and, uh, wanna thank him for coming out here, he was just playing with you, I hope you know, you know he was playing around. He’s actually a big Flyers fan, he won’t admit it, but.... So I’d like to dedicate this song to my very good friend Lou.

(BC at beginning: Good people of Philadelphia, put your hands together one last time for the SP. Come on! Sing along with us if you dare. (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll.... (a few rounds of call-and-response) (speaking) Hold on, hold you, hold on, ho.... Jimmy, we’ve been around the world together, brother. Round the world. I’ve heard people in other countries that don’t speak English sing our words louder than that. This is Philadelphia, right? That’s right. All that 1776 shit, right? Right here! Birth of the American ideal right here! Now when Joan Jett said “I love rock ‘n’ roll,” she was thinking of Philadelphia! “I love Philadelphia” didn’t sing as well as “I love rock and roll.” And you fuckers are gonna sing! (sings) I love rock ‘n’ roll...)
(BC at very end: Thank you very much, good night!)
