Age of Innocence
Glass and the Ghost Children
The Everlasting Gaze
> Heavy Metal Machine
BC: Ohia kombawa, Tokyo. Thank you very much, thank you. ... We’re lucky, we’re very lucky tonight, we have a special guest with us on stage. He’s the sumo wrestling champ under a hundred kilos. He’s taken the world title. Mr. James Iha.
Blew Away
Stand Inside Your Love
Cherub Rock
BC: Thank you. ... How is everybody? How's everybody up there? The Backstreet Boys will be on soon, please wait. And then Britney Spears and um...any Japanese pop bands.
Iha: I must apologize, my guitar rig is exploding as we speak, so I apologize for my guitar blowing up.
BC: James just won’t admit it but he doesn't wanna play the concert, it has nothing to do with his guitar.
Iha: This is cheap American gear we're using which is why it’s blowing up. And now I’m ready.
BC: Are you sure this time? Heh heh heh. No, I won’t extend your awkwardness. Anyway, um, besides our dumb American jokes, um - yes, thank you. We're glad that somebody appreciates our dumb American jokes. Thank you. This is our seventh show on our last Japanese tour and um, yes, and we play in two nights and um, for our last show. And um, promotion to the shows that we’ve been done so far in Japan, we play a little shorter show than we were playing in America because in America, the dumb American jokes are funny so then the show goes better but in Japan the dumb American jokes aren't so funny so then the show doesn't go as well so we play less songs. Thank you. And uh, yes. So tonight, as special Budokan treat, we're going to play a longer show for you tonight.
Iha: That’s if my gear doesn’t explode anymore.
BC: I believe the entire total of the show is about eight or nine hours. So if you have to go home and go to bed to go to work tomorrow, we understand. Is it Friday? So we'd like to play you another song from our hit Japanese album Machina. This is called I of the Mourning.
I of the Mourning
Le Deux Machina (tape)
To Sheila (Billy acoustic w/Iha)
BC: Thank you, thank you so very much, thank you.
This Time (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Like to introduce the band. On the bass guitar, Melissa Auf der Maur. On the drums, Hideo Nomo. Jimmy Chamberlin. And on the lead guitar, Dickey Betts.
Iha: On lead vocals and guitar, Mr. Elvin Jones.
Ava Adore (acoustic)
Try, Try, Try (acoustic)
Rock On
> Bullet with Butterfly Wings
> Once in a Lifetime
and you might ask yourself
what is the meaning of this song if it has no meaning?
and you might ask yourself
just what do i feel if i have no feelings?
and you might ask yourself
just how deep is it to the bottom of the ocean?
and you might ask yourself
is it love i feel or just devotion?

once in a lifetime
water flowing underground
into the blue again
water flowing underground

gaaah! you might ask yourself
just what do i feel today?
you might ask yourself
if i feel nothing, do i feel okay? yeah!
you might ask yourself
distract me and then cut off my feet, yeah
you might ask yourself
is this all i’m ever gonna see, now that you and me...?

once in a lifetime
water flowing underground
into the blue again
water flowing underground

whoa!
no!
i want

sometimes slow, sometimes fast, always ready for new attack
my heart is open, my soul is pure
but just how much more can one boy, one girl endure.
(screams)

whoa!
no!
what do i want?

ow!

same as it ever was
the same as it ever was
time, time
once in a lifetime
same as it ever was
in my hands, i’ve crushed a [1-2 unintelligible word]
my taste of love devotion lingered
i am a soldier through and through [1-2 unintelligible words] looove
owww
same as it ever was, same as it ever was
it’s the same as it ever was
backwards, forwards, it does not matter
my love, our love is not for the possessed
of stars, moondust, sunlight
once in a lifetime
once in a lifetime
once in a lifetime

(Billy solos)

same as it ever was
same as it ever was

Iha: (screams) (grunts) (screams) Thank you very much. Oh. Kinki? Arigato gozamas, heh heh.
BC: A couple of things before we play our last song. I know we have one more show but I know many of you won't get a chance to see the next show so to all of you who have supported us through the years, been there for the Smashing Pumpkins since our early shows, we wanted to say a special thank you to all of you for being so wonderful to us, always. Also I would like to say that coming to Japan to play is always a great honor and a pleasure and the fans that we meet here are always so wonderful, ask us if we’re okay and we get good sleep and it's the best we - anywhere we go in the world we're always treated the best in Japan so we thank you for that. One other small thing, our website Smashing Pumpkins dot com is now in Japanese so you can read funny American jokes in Japanese. So I’m gonna film a little bit of you for our website so if you wanna say hello to everybody around the world...
Iha: Hello, everybody. ... Personally I hate computers but um.... So I had some nice ramen today, I really enjoyed it that a lot, I always look forward to it when I come here...as much as I do playing guitar. Oh, I see. Wow. Have you ever had nice ramen? It’s a very good thing to have. Me and my friend Esau always seem to find good ramen and today we had curry, we went down to Shinjuku and had some very nice curry there. Can anybody - does anybody, um, panda girl, panda boy out here. Can you tell me what that is? Yamanba? Um, what is that (trying to read Japanese and failing)... I think that’s so crazy and great. Melissa, can you do the yamanba? Ah, haha. Simi-san. Yoka yoka.
BC: So, before we play this last song, thank you again and please feel free to sing along.
