Banter[edit | edit source]
BC: Yeah, yeah, hey. Alright, I feel like a midget. Thank you. Can you turn off the incessant yelling? Um, first of all, I'd like to apologize that we're so ugly, except for D'arcy and uh...and um, um, obviously we're not like really amplified, so um, to make our life easier and make everyone who wants to hear it, we could keep it like fairly quiet and uh, that way we can like, play the songs the way they're meant to be played, so bash them all out like we do live, so.... So.... So um, we’ll begin, heh.
Guy in crowd: Speak out, friend.
BC: I can't help it, I'm...soft spoken. Alright, so...so see the fun quiet and let us do our thing. This is a song off our new “don’t call it an EP,” it’s uh, called Blue.
Blue
BC: Um, this is a song we haven't really played live yet but um, we had tried to record it for this new single but it didn't come out, so it'll probably be on our next album, which will be out in 1995.
Obscured (abandoned after 26 seconds when...)
D’arcy: Wait a minute, start over. I’m playing in the wrong key.
BC: Like I said, um, we've never really played this song live.
D’arcy: Never played it [unintelligible word].
BC: Once again, another ominous in-store.
Guy in crowd: 1995!
BC: And then you can see why it won't be out until 1995. And uh....
Guy #2 in crowd: Smash that pumpkin, man.
Guy #3 in crowd: Smash it!
BC: Huh?
D’arcy: Yeah.
BC: Alright. Rewind and no fuckin' pumpkins please, you know, I'm really sick of this shit, (immediately counts into Obscured).
Obscured (abandoned after 90 seconds when...)
BC: Ah, I can't do this. I can't go on pretending that you're not (laughing) fucking this up. Alright, well, see...they say that about us, hit or miss, you know? So uh, heh heh, it's all downhill.
Siva
BC: (to D’arcy) Um, no, see in the [unintelligible word] it’s actually half a step down, but we only know how to play in that key.
D’arcy: What?
BC: We only know how to play in that key.
D’arcy: What, A?
BC: Yeah. Alright, another attempt at failure. Let's play uh, let’s play Smiley. This is a....
Unknown guy: James, it was a good call.
Iha: Thank you.
BC: Yeah, you might as well do that. Um, this is a song, we um, we did a Peel Session and I know we're trying to get this released, maybe a seven inch on Caroline –- thank you, um, I don't know, this song may never see the light of day but...it sounds like another one of our songs, so see if you can guess. You ready?
Smiley
BC: Thank you, um, for your attention, it’s appreciable.
Guy in crowd: Play Out of Focus!
Out of Focus (tease - brief attempt at playing beginning)
D’arcy: Haha!
BC: Yeah. That was the old Pumpkins, this is the new Pumpkins, flower children. Well, haha, should we go to D?
D’arcy: No.
Guy in crowd: [unintelligible].
BC: O.P.P., what's O.P.P.? Yes. ... Um, this is a song off Fish.
Suffer
Iha: Merci beaucoup.
BC: This is James's ballad.
Terrapin (abandoned after a few seconds)
BC: Should I come there, James?
Iha: No, D. That’s just fill in.
BC: This is James Barrett.
Terrapin
BC: Heh, now she’s gotta play all the other songs. Well...anybody wanna hear anything?
Guy in crowd: Not Worth Asking!
BC: No.
D’arcy and Iha: (laughing) Oh my god.
BC: Gotta keep asking.
Iha: It’s not worth asking that.
BC: We already played that song. Well, I'll leave you, uh, we'll leave you, the collective I...we. Um, this is a new song, um, which I'm sure we'll fuck up too but I don't give a fuck anymore.
Guy in crowd: I Am One.
BC: No, we will not be playing the funky version of I Am One today. You’d have to--
Guy in crowd: Play [unintelligible].
BC: You'll have to travel to um...Ottawa, Canada if you wanted to see that. This is a song called Luna.
Luna
BC: Thank you, goodnight. And uh...see you uh...we’ll see you at the motherfucking rock show.
